The U.S. Forest Service and Loomis State Forest closures on the Sinlahekin Fire will be rescinded effective October 7, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
Returning to the Fire Area: As forest closures are lifted and access increases, visitors should remember that the Sinlahekin Fire area remains a changed landscape. Hazards and ongoing suppression-repair work remain throughout portions of the fire area.
Do not cut firewood from timber decks (stacked logs) located along open roads.
Fire-Weakened Trees and Stump Hazards: Fire-weakened trees and snags may fall without warning, particularly during wind or after rain. Burned-out stump holes and root systems may remain hot beneath the surface and can collapse underfoot. Loose rock and debris may also be present in burned areas.
Post-Fire Flooding and Debris-Flow Hazards: Post-fire flooding and debris-flow hazards remain possible during periods of intense rainfall, particularly in steep burned drainages and areas downstream of the fire. Conditions can change quickly, including in areas outside the burned perimeter. Monitor weather forecasts and warnings, avoid flooded roads, and use additional caution around steep slopes, drainages, and areas below burned slopes.
Ongoing Suppression-Repair Work: Heavy equipment and suppression-repair crews will continue working in portions of the fire area. Please obey posted signs, respect active work areas, and give crews and equipment plenty of room. Some roads may close for one or more days while remaining repair work is completed.
Sharing the Road and Recreation Areas: Hunters, recreationists, residents, ranchers, cattle, fire personnel, and heavy equipment will increasingly share the road system. Slow down, watch for livestock, and expect changing conditions such as loose gravel, dust, mud, and soft shoulders.
The forest may be open, but hazards and work remain. Travel with caution.
