2PM: A new Tornado Watch has been extended into parts of Eastern/Coastal NC until 8PM or so by the National Weather Service. The main threat is a couple of strong to severe storms with damaging winds and an isolated tornado threat; stay aware through the evening.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings.

Most of our area has been upgraded to a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for severe weather for Sunday. Showers are likely with possible scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Main concerns are strong winds and the potential for a few brief tornadoes. Highest confidence is south and east of Richmond, as storms may struggle to form over the piedmont.

Day 5: Find the Fire Hazards
On the last day of fire prevention week, look around and ask yourself: What could start a fire?

Parents and educators, here are 6 quick signs you should look for when fireproofing a home:

• Extension cords: Are they damaged, overloaded, or being used where they shouldn't be?
• Charging devices: Are phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, or other devices charging safely?
• Cooking: Are towels, paper products, or other things that can burn too close to the stove?
• Heating equipment: Are heaters kept away from furniture, curtains, and other things that can burn?
• Candles: Are they being used safely and kept away from anything that can burn?
• A few minutes spent identifying hazards can help prevent a fire before it starts.

Additionally, teach others to always keep their doors closed. Closing your bedroom door while you sleep can help slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving you more time to escape.

As Fire Prevention Week comes to a close, don't just talk about fire safety. Take Action, protect your home, and protect your family!
