This November Election, Choose to Help Birds and the Climate: Vote NO on Popr 45, YES on Measure RTM
There are two major issues on this November’s ballot that will make a significant difference for local birds and the fight against climate change. Please vote NO on Prop 45 and YES on Measure RTM.
Vote NO on Prop 45 – the proposal to gut the California Environmental Quality Act. Prop 45 would severely reduce the amount of information the public receives about massive projects proposed in our area. Everything from data centers and highways to large housing developments and reservoirs would receive far less public scrutiny. Furthermore, residents would face much stricter limits on the time allowed to weigh in on proposals that affect them, our communities, and local wildlife. Even worse, the current mechanisms we rely on to make these projects less harmful to birds, their habitats, and our neighborhoods would be eliminated. This November, please vote NO on Prop 45. Vote YES on Measure RTM – to protect Bay Area transit agencies from BART station closures and slashed bus services, and to save our roads and freeways from massive traffic increases. Climate change is already harming many bird populations worldwide. Increased drought, fires, smoke-filled air, and unpredictable food and water sources are just a few of the ways it affects birds in the Mount Diablo area. One of the most effective ways to combat climate change is to reduce vehicle emissions by maintaining and improving public transit—such as rail, buses, and biking infrastructure—as viable alternatives to driving. Measure RTM supplies crucial funding to transit agencies throughout the Bay Area, including BART. Research confirms that if this measure fails, BART stations—likely including North Concord, Antioch, and Pittsburg—would close, and traffic on Contra Costa’s roads and freeways would severely worsen. For example, imagine evening traffic at the Caldecott Tunnel being three times heavier than it is today. Please vote YES on Measure RTM to help both birds and our climate. Learn more HERE.
