With friends, family, and colleagues, Xon Burris was pinned as Contra Costa Fire's newest Deputy Fire Chief!

Chief Burris most recently served as Assistant Chief of the EMS Division, where he led several key initiatives, including implementation of the Nurse Navigation Program and efforts that reduced ambulance patient off-load times by 12 minutes. During his tenure, the EMS Division also achieved 100% response-time compliance across all zones.

As Deputy Fire Chief of Administration, he will oversee Support Services, Human Resources, Finance, and Communications Divisions.

Congratulations!

Our partners at San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District are hosting a low-cost youth heart screening. The screening is open to anyone ages 12–25, regardless of where you live. You do not need to live within San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District’s service area to participate.

See below for more details.

Heart health matters, especially when there may be no warning signs.
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is proud to support the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation and its youth heart screening program.

Youth ages 12–25 are invited to participate in a heart screening that includes a health and family history assessment, an EKG, and a physician review. If additional evaluation is recommended, an echocardiogram may also be performed.

These screenings are designed to help identify previously undetected heart conditions that may increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in young people.

Saturday, October 3, 2026
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
San Ramon Valley High School
Ages 12–25
$10 screening fee

Take a proactive step toward knowing more about your heart health.

Today, we gathered to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

Our annual remembrance ceremony was an opportunity to reflect on the courage of those who responded, the lives lost, and the sacrifices that continue to shape the fire service today.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to carry their memory with us. Never forget.
