What does GCD’s ADA Coordinator do? GCD’s Team Member Mary Rubarsky, who is the ADA Coordinator, says that a good deal of time she collaborates, educates, or provides guidance to State of New Hampshire agencies and its employees. New
Hampshire supports the valuable contributions those with disabilities bring to the workplace. That’s worth recognizing during National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

Hi, I’m Chuck Saia, Executive Director of the Governor’s Commission on Disability. I would like to share a few words about disability and employment as we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

At the GCD, our focus on disability and employment doesn’t begin and end in October. As New Hampshire’s ADA resource, we see every day the skill, talent, and value people with disabilities bring to our workforce—and the importance of supporting real independence and financial freedom.

Did you know that there are two GCD Team members whose subject matter is focused on the employment of individuals with a disability? This reflects that New Hampshire actively welcomes individuals with disabilities into its government and private sector workforce.

And I can’t miss the chance to highlight New Hampshire’s savings plan for people with disabilities. As an administrator of The NH ABLE Plan, I see firsthand how life-changing it can be. With an NH ABLE Account individuals with a disability can save $20,000 per year without jeopardizing benefits like SSI and Medicaid. And as exciting, if an individual with an NH ABLE Account is working, that person has the opportunity to save an additional $15,000 plus a year. I have always maintained that the passage of ABLE legislation was a game changer, and followed the strides made with the ADA.

Let’s all continue to recognize the importance of disability and employment. Together, we can keep building a Granite State where everyone’s talent is seen, supported, and valued all year long.

Take care and be well.
