This past Friday, Co. 13 spent the morning visiting Concord Elementary School for Fire Safety Day!

Firefighter Kirby went over Get Out, Stay Out, And Go To The Meeting Place with the kids. When smoke detectors go off or there is a fire, the kids learned to get out, stay out and go to the predetermined meeting place as discussed with their family. The kids also learned the dangers of fire and not to play with it.

After learning with Firefighter Kirby, the classes split up and went outside to look at each firetruck and the equipment they carry. Firefighters went over the use of each equipment and the PPE that they wear to protect themselves from fire, as well as additional information on what to do during emergencies.

The 5th grade class got to have their own firefighter competition inside of the gym. They complete several stations in the course simulating tasks that firefighters must perform including dressing out, using a sledgehammer, removing a victim, and deploying hose. The students broke up into teams and competed against one another and their teachers completing the course.

This year, two lucky students will win a tablet! In order to be entered to win, each student must give the fire safety packet they were sent home with to their parents, go over it together, have a parent sign it, and return it to their teacher.
