You're invited: A Menopause Policy Conversation

Menopause used to be something we didn't talk about. Now it's front and center in California's state budget.

Here's why that matters. Nearly three in four women aren't treating their menopause symptoms, often because they can't find a doctor who gets it or an insurance plan that covers it. I've spent the past several years championing legislation to fix this.

After my Menopause Care Equity Act (AB 432) passed the Legislature with bipartisan support, I kept pushing, and this year we made it happen in the State Budget. California now requires health plans to cover FDA-approved menopause treatments, sets clear rules for coverage decisions, trains more doctors and nurses in menopause care, and funds statewide education.

Now let's talk about it. Please join me and Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, Executive Director of the Birnbaum Women's Leadership Center at NYU Law, author of forthcoming book "When in Menopause: A User's Manual and Citizen's Guide," and one of the country's leading voices on menopause, for a discussion on October 14. We'll discuss what California's new menopause provisions mean for you, from insurance coverage for treatment to better-trained providers. We'll also cover how years of advocacy made it happen, and what's next for menopause policy in California and nationally. We can't wait to have this conversation with you!

Thank you, John Muir Health, and Sharon Jenkins, for opening this webinar to the public. Health research is disproportionately centered on men's health, which makes conversations like these particularly important. Do you think there is a need for the public to receive more accurate information on menopause and HRT?
