You can never tell for sure what Mother Nature will throw our way, so we encourage you all to be prepared for snowy roads just in case! Check your tires and get them changed if they are worn down, and have tire socks for additional traction (especially needed if you don’t have all wheel drive and traction law goes into effect). We’ll be here if you need us!

Light rain is expected to continue through the morning for areas along and west of the I-25 corridor. More widespread showers are expected across the plains this afternoon and evening. Snow is expected in the mountains today and tonight, with the majority of snow falling above 9000ft.

The Elk Creek Wildland Fire Module continues its work on the Swiss Roll Fire on the USDA Forest Service - San Juan National Forest.

The first photo was taken last week, when fire activity was more significant. As seen in the short video clip, several days of rain have since moderated that activity, but the fire is not “out.” It continues to smolder in places and may remain active until the area receives significant snowfall.

Our Module remains on the fire, completing important preparation work such as cutting brush, removing fire-weakened dead trees and reducing ladder fuels. This work reduces available fuels if the fire becomes more active again, while also supporting long-term stewardship of the area.

What a wonderful day at The Big Chili Cook Off Evergreen today! A huge thank you to everyone who came out, who volunteered, and who participated. Our Honor Guard opened the festivities, we served tons of chili, FF Huber competed in the Firefighter Challenge, and our amazing chefs won 2nd place in the People’s Choice voting for the Veggie Chili category.

We’ll see you all again next year!
