🌄 Making a difference—at the gala and throughout our community

A heartfelt thank you to the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association () Foundation for sponsoring the 2026 MRC Gala, Colorado Sunrise Trails: A Bright Path Ahead.

It was a wonderful night filled with fun, generosity, and meaningful connections. Together, our guests and sponsors helped raise an incredible amount of support for Mountain Resource Center and the neighbors who turn to MRC for essential services.

The Foundation’s commitment to “making a difference in the courthouse and the community” was beautifully reflected in its support of this event. Your generosity helped create an evening worth celebrating and will continue making a difference long after the last gala guest went home.

👀 What’s missing? Memory skills in action at MRC Preschool

Our amazing substitute teacher Kim recently invited our preschoolers to put their observation and memory skills to the test with a playful “What’s Missing?” activity.

Kim began by placing a collection of items on a tray and taking time to look them over with the children. Then came the challenge: she covered the tray, peeked underneath where no one else could see, and quietly removed a few items. When the tray was revealed again, the children worked together to remember what had disappeared.

This simple game creates so many levels of learning. Children practice focus, visual memory, vocabulary, critical thinking, turn-taking, and teamwork as they study the objects, describe what they notice, and share their guesses. They also build confidence as they test their ideas and discover that careful observation can help them solve a mystery.

Thank you, Kim, for bringing curiosity, connection, and plenty of fun to the classroom. At MRC Preschool, joyful moments like these help young minds grow—one missing object at a time. 💛

🌸 Sticky fingers, careful hands, big learning at MRC Preschool

Our preschoolers have been busy creating colorful flower art—gluing little cloth flowers to paper and then decorating their pages with markers, crayons, and other materials. It may look like a sweet flowery project, but there is so much important learning happening in those small, focused movements.

When children pick up tiny fabric flowers, squeeze just the right amount of glue, place each piece where they want it to go, and add their own drawn details, they are strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, planning, patience, creativity, and confidence. They are also practicing decision-making: Where should this flower go? What colors do I want to add? How can I make this page my own?

And yes—sometimes we use real glue, not just glue sticks. Liquid glue gives children a chance to practice pressure, control, sequencing, and problem-solving in a different way. They learn that too much glue can make things slippery or soggy, too little may not hold, and waiting for something to dry is part of the process. Those lessons build independence, persistence, and early classroom skills children will use again and again.

At MRC Preschool, art is never just art. It is creativity, coordination, sensory exploration, language, science, self-expression, and school readiness—all blooming together, one tiny flower at a time. 💛

🚨 MOST WANTED: Adult Protective Underwear 🚨

Some needs are easy to talk about. Others can feel more private—but they are just as important.

Adult protective underwear is one of those essential items that can make a meaningful difference in someone’s daily life. It supports dignity, comfort, confidence, and independence for neighbors who may be managing health conditions, caregiving needs, aging-related changes, or unexpected circumstances.

These products can also be expensive and hard for households to keep stocked, especially when budgets are already stretched. That is why they are such an appreciated donation in our Food Share Market.

If you are able to donate, adult protective underwear is one of our Most Wanted items right now. Your gift helps local neighbors meet a basic personal care need with dignity and care.

🎵 Calm bodies, strong bodies, creative minds

This preschool activity brought together soothing music, mindful movement, and early art exploration—all while helping children build important physical strength.

Lying on their stomachs, propped up on their elbows, our students listened to calming music and let their markers move across the whiteboard without picking them up. One continuous line became a way to follow the sound, notice the moment, and explore how music can inspire movement and creativity.

This kind of activity gives children a peaceful pause in the day while also supporting focus, self-regulation, fine motor control, and artistic expression. And that tummy-down position is doing important work, too: holding themselves up on their elbows helps children strengthen their shoulders, arms, core, and upper bodies, which supports everything from sitting comfortably to writing with control.

At MRC Preschool, learning through play can be calm, creative, mindful, and full of growth.

MRC’s mission is to engage our community with essential services that empower all people to thrive. We envision a community that is healthy, secure, and connected.
