So NextEra is buying a data center location, I mean, a natural gas power plant, with more acreage than they need.
Then they give the commissioners, who did nothing for this, a photo op to make them feel important because apparently a little attention goes a long way. And now they’re trying to buy the firefighters’ goodwill with a check that will barely cover the cost of a fire school.
For some perspective, the Crary Hose Company in Westfield, Pennsylvania, spent $350,500 on just a fire training burn building.
The building itself cost $175,500, with another $175,000 for site preparation, including a driveway, concrete pad, and fencing.
But here’s where things get interesting.
This is the same NextEra Energy whose subsidiary, Florida Power & Light, was caught up in allegations involving political influence, dark money, and ghost candidates allegedly used to manipulate elections.
The same company whose political consultants were exposed in investigative reporting for surveilling a journalist who was critical of the utility. FPL denied authorizing or knowing about that surveillance.
The same NextEra whose subsidiary pleaded guilty to federal wildlife violations involving the deaths of protected eagles and was ordered to pay more than $8 million in fines and restitution.
And the same company whose energy marketing subsidiary has faced allegations of excessive natural gas pricing during Winter Storm Uri in Oklahoma.
Same company. Same playbook.
Get close to politicians. Control the public narrative. Hand out checks. Smile for the cameras. Make sure everyone gets their photo opportunity.
Is that what’s happening here? That’s a question worth asking.
🚒❤️ Investing in the people who show up when our community needs them most.
Yesterday, the Fayette County Firefighters Association received a $25,000 check from NextEra Energy Resources to support the development of a new fire school and training facility!
This investment is about more than a building. It’s about helping equip the men and women who dedicate their time, training, and courage to protecting our families, our homes, and our communities. When our first responders have the resources and training they need, our entire county benefits. ❤️
As part of its commitment to being a strong community partner, NextEra Resources supports local organizations and initiatives that strengthen the communities where it develops projects.
We’re grateful to see businesses investing right here in Fayette County and supporting the people who work tirelessly to keep our neighbors safe.
Thank you to NextEra Resources for helping invest in the future of our first responders, and thank you to the Fayette County Firefighters Association and our firefighters for everything you do for our community. 🚒👏
