New Hampshire's Republican majority has run on cutting taxes for well over a decade. It's worth asking: which taxes, and for whom?

Over the past six years, the state cut business taxes four times and repealed the Interest & Dividends tax, which primarily benefited higher-income residents and investors.

Meanwhile, town property taxes — paid by everyone who owns or rents — have continued to rise. The cuts at the state level went largely to corporations and wealthier residents. The increases at the local level have been felt by most everyone else.

Is this the "NH Advantage?"

Republitarians (Republicans and Liberty Alliance/Free State-aligned legislators) claim tax cuts, but the average Granite Stater has yet to feel the relief. Over a decade and counting.

New Hampshire ranks dead last in the nation in state funding for public education. That's a choice. Not an accident. It is the result of specific policy choices made by Republicans in Concord.

The EFA voucher program is projected to cost $100 million per year — money drawn from the same Education Trust Fund that helps (barely) fund local public schools. The NH Supreme Court has ruled (twice) the state is already $500 million short of its constitutional obligation to fund public education. Every dollar diverted to EFAs is a dollar that doesn't go to your local classrooms — and a dollar your property tax bill has to make up.

Instead, the trust fund is paying private school tuition for wealthy families — through a program that's never been competitively bid, never been properly audited, and whose founding official just joined the contractor's board.

Here is what that $100 million could do for NH public schools instead. Share this if you think NH kids deserve better.
