We were happy to assist in transporting this Great Horned Owl to Tom Ricardi for rehabilitation this morning. It will be well looked after with him and his wonderful team of veterinarians.

This morning Chief Minckler received a call of an injured owl on the center line along Rt 63. Chief Minckler located the injured owl near Long Hill Rd. The Chief carefully took possession of the owl and made numerous phone calls, trying to find a Birds of Pray rehabilitator. Chief Bates from Conway PD agreed to pick up and transport the owl to a rehabilitator in his community. Thank you Chief Bates and hopeful for a speedy recovery for the owl. The Conway Police Chief, along with neighboring police chiefs, were proud to have taken part in the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Series, a leadership training program designed to help law enforcement better serve their communities. In small towns, like Conway, strong relationships, communication, and trust matter. This training helped us to continue building those connections while growing as leaders. We were grateful for the opportunity to learn, improve, and serve the residents of the towns we serve to the best of our ability.

UPDATE: The bald eagle was found to have lead poisoning in its blood and was transported to a veterinarian that specializes in that type of rehabilitation in the Springfield area. After some tender loving care, the bald eagle was standing on its own and eating again.

The Conway Police Chief happened to be at the right place at the time. He and was able to assist Tom Ricardi, Birds of Prey, with this mature male bald eagle. The injured eagle was on Route 112 in Buckland. The Shelburne Sergeant got on scene quickly and watched the eagle drag itself from the center of the road to the field. Tom Ricardi easily captured the eagle and they transported it to the South Deerfield Veterinary Clinic for evaluation. 🇺🇸🦅
