Located in Carolina Forest, the 43,000-square-foot facility brings county services closer to residents and serves as the permanent home of the Horry County Police Dept. ’s Fifth Precinct. PARTIAL CLOSURE COMING TO MCCORMICK ROAD 🚧

Drivers traveling through the Forestbrook area should prepare for a temporary road closure beginning Nov. 1, 2026, as crews begin work on a stormwater improvement project.

McCormick Road will be closed at the bridge crossing between Triple Crown Court and Dewey Road while crews install a relief culvert along Socastee Creek.

Detours will be in place along Forestbrook Road, Burcale Road and Fantasy Harbour Boulevard. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage and use caution when traveling near the construction area.

Funded through a partnership with the SC Office of Resilience (SCOR), the project is designed to improve drainage capacity and help reduce flooding impacts in the Forestbrook and Socastee communities.

The road closure is expected to remain in place through December, with the overall project anticipated to wrap up in early 2027.

Thank you for your patience as crews work to improve stormwater drainage in this area of Horry County.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ALONG HIGHWAY 701 🛣️

A lot is happening along Highway 701 north of Conway as contractors prepare the roadway for widening.

Drivers are asked to be mindful of active construction between SC Hwy. 319 and Hwy. 22.

The 5-lane expansion is part of Horry County’s RIDE 3 initiative. It will feature a new center turn lane, wider travel lanes and sidewalks.

Right now, crews are focused on getting the future lanes to the proper elevation. Crews are also building new ditches to improve drainage while water and sewer utility relocations also continue.

You may have also noticed new asphalt was added in September between SC Hwy. 319 and Harris Shortcut. This isn’t the final surfacing. It’s asphalt build-up to help bring the roadway up to its designed grade and elevation.

Construction is expected to continue through 2028.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ABSENTEE VOTING 🗳

Absentee voting allows qualified voters to cast a ballot by mail prior to Election Day.

If you’re interested in voting absentee for the November 3 General Election but not sure where to start, here are a few basics from the State Election Commission (SEC):

✅Step 1: Know if you’re eligible - Only voters who have a qualifying reason can vote absentee. Some common qualifying reasons include physical disability, being 65 and older, or employment obligations preventing voting during early voting and on Election Day.

📃Step 2: Request an absentee application – You can receive your application by calling or visiting your local voter registration and elections office. You can also make your request by U.S. mail to your local office. You will need to provide personal details, including your social security number.

📨Step 3: Complete, sign & return your application – The deadline to return your application is Friday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. This can be done in person or through U.S. mail. You will receive your absentee ballot in the mail after your application is validated.

📫Step 4: Vote and return your absentee ballot - Absentee ballots must be received by your county voter registration and elections office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. Ballots returned by mail should be mailed no later than one week prior to Election Day to help ensure timely delivery.

🔗For more on the absentee voting process, including a more detailed list of eligibility requirements, visit the link in the comments below.
