West Tennessee Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Regional Coordinator, Jennifer Stone, empowers Southwest Area Agency on Aging and Disability volunteers to outsmart Medicare scammers.
Medical identity theft is on the rise, and bad actors are now using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make their tactics look and sound more convincing than ever. From realistic fake phone calls that sound exactly like a loved one, to sophisticated scams designed to steal your Medicare number, it is critical to stay informed.
Remember the SMP Blueprint to keep yourself safe:
• 🛡️ Prevent: Never give out your Medicare number, Social Security number, or banking information to anyone who calls, texts, or emails you unexpectedly.
• 🔍 Detect: Review your Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) and Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) as soon as they arrive. Look for services, products, or equipment you never received.
• 📞 Report: If you suspect Medicare fraud or errors, report it immediately.
We are here to help! If you think you’ve been targeted by a scam or have questions about suspicious charges, contact the Tennessee SMP at 1-866-836-7677.
