Be safe at the beach...

The first round of this season’s King Tides, the highest tide sequences of the winter on the Oregon Coast, will arrive around November 23–27, 2026. It is important to remember that King Tides are not the same as High Surf Events.

King Tides are predictable and bring exceptionally high water levels that may cause minor flooding and offer a preview of how rising sea levels could shape our coastal communities in the future.
High Surf Events are generated by storm energy far out at sea, making them less predictable. High surf creates the dramatic waves that many visitors hope to see at Shore Acres State Park.
If you’re near the water during King Tides, please stick to designated viewpoints, stay off beaches and jetties, keep a close eye on the ocean, and never turn your back to the ocean.

Looking for Firefighters in our region to attend this class. 2 days of intensive training on company operations with light staffing at no cost to our firefighters in the region.

Light Staffed Truck and Engine Companies
Hosted by the Jeff Common LODD Foundation
October 10-11, 2026
Coos Bay, OR

This two-day training opportunity will focus on the reality and challenges of working light staffed, as a truck or engine company.

Most fire trucks have more empty seats than those occupied.

However, those facing a horrific day don't care about your staffing.

They expect rescues to be made, fires to go out.

This action-packed program will spend a short bit of time in the classroom, but then transitions to the field for skill stations, group exercises, eventually leading up to some intense, scenario-based exercises on the final day.

Upon completion of this program, the student will have an improved understanding of how to get maximum effectiveness of the engine and truck company driven by a sound command presence despite short staffing.

We are currently in Low Fire Danger, however, we are still in Fire Season and debris burning is still banned. This includes Burn Barrells and open debris burning.

As a reminder, when we do go out of Fire Season, all debris burning will require a burn permit and site inspection before you may be able to burn.

As a reminder, we are STILL IN FIRE SEASON.

Fire Season Decreases to Low on Thursday 9/3/2026 at 10:00AM

With much needed rain across the CFPA district the Regulated Use Closure has decreased to LOW (green) districtwide.

All debris burning is still strictly prohibited.

Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) will remain Level 1 in all zones, CS1, CS2, CS4, CS5, and SK2.

Lands affected by this declaration include state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) forestlands in Coos, Curry, and Western Douglas counties.

09/02/2026

With the rains, Coos FPA has reduced the fire danger level to Moderate. Where this is a reduction in regulations, it still does not end Fire Season. We will need to see lots more rain plus more on the way before that decision can be made. The dry conditions look like they will return in a few days.

ALL OPEN DEBRIS BURNING AND BURN BARRELS ARE STILL NOT ALLOWED.
