UPDATE: Sophia has been located; CBPD appreciates the public's assistance!

COOS BAY TEEN MISSING, POSSIBLY ENDANGERED

The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) is requesting public assistance to locate missing and potentially endangered 16-year-old Sophia Kritenbrink of Coos Bay.

Sophia was last seen on October 5, 2026, around 1:00 PM, leaving Marshfield High School, 972 Ingersoll Ave., in Coos Bay. Sophia is a white female, approximately 5’9”, 120 pounds, with long black hair and a right nostril piercing. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and brown cowboy boots.

An unknown white female, possibly 20–30 years old, of medium build, with brown hair was seen entering the area in a white Volkswagen Golf hatchback. Sophia was later seen leaving as the driver of that vehicle with unknown female as the passenger.

SAFETY REMINDER FROM CBPD

Earlier this week, CBPD was notified that two homes, one on Crocker St. and another on a neighboring street in North Bend, had been struck by r***e rounds. Investigating officers determined that the rounds were likely fired from a significant distance away, potentially from the North Spit area outside city limits. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Although recreational shooting is allowed in many areas outside of city limits, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of abiding by fi***rm laws and practicing safe shooting. Safe shooting practices include knowing where you are shooting, identifying your target and what lies beyond it, and using an appropriate backstop. Never shoot toward or over water, roads, homes, or other areas where a round could endanger people or property.

MEDIA RELEASE

CBPD ARREST TWO FOLLOWING REPORT OF GUNFIRE ON LAKESHORE DRIVE

​On Monday, September 28, 2026, North Coos 911 received a report from a person who said a man had thrown a b**r bottle at the caller’s vehicle while it was parked on Lakeshore Drive near Stillwater Avenue. The caller followed the other vehicle to obtain its license plate number and other identifying information. After the vehicle pulled off the road at another turnout, the caller continued to a gravel parking lot and called 9-1-1. While speaking with dispatchers, the caller reported seeing the vehicle approach from behind and hearing gunshots that the caller believed were directed at them. The caller then fled the area.

​Patrol Officers and a Detective responded to the area. An Oregon State Police Trooper, who was in the area, located the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on Newmark Avenue. The Trooper and Coos Bay Police stopped the vehicle after it pulled into the Empire Boat Ramp.

​Officers contacted 30-year-old Elyshia O’Rouke and 45-year-old John Gray in the vehicle. During the investigation officers seized the vehicle and applied for a search warrant to search for the fi***rm used in the incident. After being granted, the search warrant officer located three fi***rms inside the vehicle, one having bullets that matched shell casings located at the scene of the incident.

​Gray was transported to the Coos County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing. O’Rourke was transported to the Coos County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Fi***rm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing.

​CBPD was assisted in this investigation by Oregon State Police and North Bend Police Department.

Visit CBPD tomorrow September 29th, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM for a free car seat safety clinic!

Thanks to a recent grant, we will also be offering a limited number of car and booster seats to qualifying low-income families for a small copay.

Recipients will need to provide:
•A valid ID card
•Proof of low income by presenting one of the following:
•OHP medical card
•EBT/Oregon Trail card
•WIC voucher
•Proof of Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
•Direct referral from an agency that requires income eligibility

North Coos 911 has been made aware of a 911 outage impacting some cell phone users. We are working to reroute the impacted 911 calls to our non-emergency number until this is resolved.

DISPATCHER POWELL LITTRELL EARNS INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATION

North Coos 911 Dispatcher Erika Powell Littrell recently earned her Intermediate Telecommunicator Certificate from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.

Dispatcher Powell Littrell began her career as a Public Safety Telecommunicator in January 2020 with the Willamette Valley Communication Center. After moving to the Coos Bay area, she joined the Coos Bay Police Department in November 2024 as an Emergency Telecommunicator for the North Coos 911 Dispatch Center.

During her six years as a certified Public Safety Telecommunicator, Dispatcher Powell Littrell has completed more than 460 hours of training, played a vital role in several significant incidents, and served as a Communications Training Officer. Her experience, training, and dedication more than meet the criteria for this upper-level certification.

COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR MCGARITY COMPLETES SUPERVISOR LEADERESHIP ACADEMY

Communication Supervisor Kristen McGarity recently graduated from the Supervisor Leadership Academy at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training in Salem, Oregon.

The academy is an intensive 80-hour leadership course delivered in two one-week sessions, attended by public safety front-line supervisors from throughout Oregon. McGarity attended the first session July 6–10 and completed the second session August 3–7.

Throughout the program, participants strengthened their supervisory skills through applied leadership training, mentorship planning, policy collaboration, assigned coursework, and milestone assessments.

Her successful completion of the academy reflects her hard work, and dedication to professional growth and public service.
