A Meaningful Gift Honoring Deputy Chief Mike Fleming

Today, the Copperas Cove Fire Department was honored to receive a special donation from the CENTEX F.O.O.L.S. (Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society).

The group originally raffled off a Stitch Hook from Fire Maul to raise funds in support of Deputy Chief Mike Fleming during his courageous battle with cancer.

When the winning ticket was drawn, the winner generously asked that the hook be donated to the Copperas Cove Fire Department. The CENTEX F.O.O.L.S. took that gesture one step further by having the hook engraved before officially presenting it to our department today.

This hook represents much more than a piece of firefighting equipment. It is a symbol of brotherhood, generosity, and the unwavering support of the fire service family.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the CENTEX F.O.O.L.S. and the generous raffle winner for this meaningful gift. It will serve as a lasting reminder of Deputy Chief Fleming and the impact he had on our department and the fire service.

Brotherhood doesn't end when the call is over.

πŸš’ Learning Fire Safety Beyond the Classroom! πŸš‘

Today, Ladder 1, Engine 2, and Medic 3 visited Taylor Creek Elementary for a hands-on look at what firefighters and paramedics do every day.

As part of Fire Prevention Month, students got an up-close look at:

πŸ› οΈ Vehicle Extrication – How firefighters use specialized tools to safely remove people from a vehicle after a crash.

πŸ’¦ Elevated Master Stream – A look at Ladder 1 and how we can deliver large amounts of water from above during a fire.

πŸš‘ Inside the Ambulance – What happens inside a Medic unit and the equipment our paramedics use to care for patients.

The best part of Fire Prevention Month is not just teaching kids about fire safety. It is giving them a chance to see the equipment, ask questions, and meet the firefighters and paramedics who serve their community.

A big thank you to Taylor Creek Elementary for having us out! We always enjoy spending time with the students and showing them what happens behind the badge and beyond the fire station. πŸ”₯

A badge carries a promiseβ€”to serve with integrity, answer the call, and care for our community.

On October 1, the Copperas Cove Fire Department celebrated the swearing-in and badge pinning of Michaela R. Akers, Gavin M. Hamm, Kayne A. Haney, and Matthew B. McPherson.

Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow firefighters, these four members marked a meaningful milestone in their service to Copperas Cove. Their oath reflects the responsibility and public trust that come with wearing the badge.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the loved ones whose support helps make this service possible.

Please join us in congratulating Akers, Hamm, Haney, and McPherson! We are proud to have you serving our community.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Copperas Cove Fire Department is proud to stand with everyone affected by breast cancer.

Throughout the month, our firefighters will be showing their support by wearing T-Shirts with pink logos, along with pink EMS patient-care gloves. It is a small change in color that represents a much bigger purpose.

We stand with those currently fighting, those who have fought, the survivors, and the families who stand beside them. We also recognize the strength, courage, and resilience of everyone touched by this disease.

Same Mission. Different Color. Bigger Purpose.
No One Fights Alone.

BUILDING LEADERS FROM WITHIN

The Copperas Cove Fire Department is committed to developing strong leaders from within our organization. The Trusted Leadership, Accountability, and a Dose of Caring Service training with Dallas Fire-Rescue Retired Deputy Chief Daniel E. DeYear is one of the steps we are taking to invest in our people and prepare CCFD for the future.

Chief DeYear is a 45-year fire service veteran, including 32 years with Dallas Fire-Rescue, where he retired as Deputy Chief. He has served in numerous leadership roles and is a respected fire service instructor and speaker.

CCFD is hosting two classes on September 17 and 18, focusing on leadership, accountability, trust, professional relationships, and caring leadership.

We were proud to have CCFD personnel, Copperas Cove Police Department personnel, and firefighters from other departments participate in the training.

Thank you to all of the departments that sent personnel to Copperas Cove, and to the Copperas Cove Police Department for participating.

Leadership development is an ongoing process. This training is just one of the steps CCFD is taking to build the leaders who will carry this department forward.

β€œYou can earn trust, you can spend trust, but you never own it. Someone else does, and they are loaning it to you.”
β€” Chief Daniel DeYear
