CCFR would like to thank the Crisp County Board of Commissioners for recognizing the first week of October as Fire Prevention Week 2026.

As CCFR utilizes the entire month of October to educate the public about Fire Prevention and Safety, we would like to share a few safe charging habits:

•Only use the charger and cable supplied with the device, or one approved by the device manufacturer.
•Charge on a hard, flat surface.
•Unplug devices when fully charged.
•Watch for warning signs such as devices that become very hot or begin to swell.
•Charge larger devices, like e-bikes and e-scooters, outside and away from doorways and exits.

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more info: fpw.org.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

Crisp County Fire Rescue receives Fireworks Tax Grant.

Crisp County Fire Rescue received a $24,000.00 tax grant from Georgia Fireworks Tax Grant Program. The program, administered by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council, uses a portion to the the state's consumer fireworks excise tax to fund equipment and resources for local fire departments.

CCFR used this funding to purchase turnout gear, particulate hoods, and structural boots.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can
overheat and start a fire. For more info: fpw.org.

CCFR visited Crisp County Pre-K this week. Everyone learned about smoke alarms, stop, drop and roll, and what to do in case of a fire.

We encourage all parents to discuss with their children home escape routes and where to meet up in case of a fire.
