Today is Children’s Home Sunday across the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination. We always hold our historical connection to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church closely, but especially today. Today we celebrate the root of our existence and the foundation that allows us to build our future. We hope that we are always connected to the generous spirits and faithful support of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. As we celebrate our 120th anniversary this year, we are grateful for the legacy of support that has impacted thousands of lives through the generations.

Cumberland first opened its doors in 1904, as a ministry for the widows and orphans of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The picture below is of Miss Victoria Jackson who bequeathed her home in Bowling Green, Kentucky that became the first site of the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home. In 1932, the denomination moved us to our 17-acre campus in Denton, Texas. Our name and location may have changed over the years, but our mission of creating safe places to call home remains the same.
