As we celebrate
Let’s be mindful of the facts … American Library Association estimates 4,235 titles have been banned or challenged. 92% by organized groups, government officials, or decision makers other than parents. 40% of titles challenged represent, “lived experiences and lives of LBGTQIA+ individuals and people of color.” Historical banning has taken place in Florida, Tennessee, and Texas, with Iowa, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Utah following close behind.
I deliberately and regularly curate our Little Free Library
to include banned and challenged authors, books, and topics. As an avid reader, a healthcare professional, an educator, grandmother with a grandson in TN, and a resident of TX THIS MATTERS! 🚫📚
How can we all help prevent further banning of books and have our freedom to read be just that?!?
