This upcoming Saturday is the Literary Lawn Party of Mississippi! The Mississippi Book Festival is back! And if you are unable to make the drive to Jackson this year, Northeast Regional Library can help! Here are some of the featured writers and their latest works:
1. Pineapple Street and The Shampoo Effect by Jenny Jackson: Ms. Jackson is a New York Times bestselling author and is best known for her witty, sharp and contemporary fiction exploring family dynamics. Her latest work, The Shampoo Effect, is about a tight-knit group of friends in a small coastal town whose lives are upended when an outsider arrives and long buried issues rise to the surface. What will happen?
2. Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden: This memoir has been a massive literary phenomenon since it was first released in January 2026. It chronicles the sudden and shocking collapse of her perfect 20-year marriage. The betrayal. Because of the massive cultural impact of this book, Netflix has purchased the screen adaptation rights with plans for Gywneth Paltrow to star as Belle Burden.
3. Girl’s Girl by Sonia Feldman: This debut novel has been described as a coming-of-age story with the “Jane Austenian attentiveness to the foibles of suburban adolescence”. Told from the perspective of the adult Mina looking back, the novel captures the intense volatile intimacy of teenage girlhood and the shifting boundaries between friendship and romance.
4. Lincoln in the Bardo and Tenth of December by George Saunders: Mr. Saunders is a critically-acclaimed novelist. His debut novel, Lincoln in the Bardo, was the recipient of the 2017 Booker Prize and has been described as a daring ghost story centered on Abraham Lincoln’s grief over the death of his young son, Willie. His latest work, Vigil, explores the final hours of an 80-year oil tycoon who undergoes an otherworldly reckoning. If you are interested in reading Vigil, let us know! We are working on obtaining a copy for our library, and it will soon be available for interlibrary loan. https://msbookfestival.com/schedule
