I was honored to speak at yesterday’s India Day, a wonderful celebration of Indian cultural elements - dress, music, dance, and food. All on Aug. 15, India Independence Day. Events like this build understanding & unity in our Corning community, and I was happy to be part of it!

Yesterday I attended the ribbon cutting for the 18th Alley Art Project at the library. What an amazing and beautiful piece of collaborative work between the students of C-PP and the artist, Devan Shimoyama! It transformed a bland (to put it mildly!) long stretch of concrete into a thought-provoking scene of colors and patterns. In the coming week they will put finishing touches on some of the large flower pedals. It is absolutely worth a visit to the library to view.

Hi all, here's a summary of the Aug City Council meeting, plus a couple other notes. All resolutions passed unanimously.

* Approved committee member nominations (all local residents) for Denison and Stewart Parks splash pad review committees.
* Accepted an American Heart Assoc. grant to purchase two defibrillators and a blood pressure kiosk for the Senior Center. Also agreed to set up a Senior Center donation reserve account.
* Authorized $595k bonding for water and sewer main replacement, and wastewater treatment plant pump replacement.

Unfortunately, the Stewart Park pool repairs could not be concluded for summer use. The Corning-PP High pool was also undergoing repairs but is now open. Thus, 3 open swim sessions will be offered, all from 11:45-1:45: Aug, 11, 13 and 18.

Corning India Day is this Saturday from 4-8P at Centerway Square. See you there!
