Taylor County Public Health has announced that measles cases have been identified in southern Iowa, including within the area serving Adams County.
Adams County residents are encouraged to check their vaccination status and be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles.
Symptoms may develop 7–21 days after exposure and can include:
High fever
Cough
Runny nose
Red or watery eyes
A red, blotchy rash that typically begins on the face and spreads downward
Measles is highly contagious and can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.
⚠️ If you believe you have been exposed and develop symptoms, CALL your healthcare provider or Taylor County Public Health BEFORE going to a clinic, hospital, or other healthcare facility. Calling ahead allows healthcare providers to take precautions and help prevent additional exposure.
💉 Check your MMR vaccination status. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best protection against measles.
