Be aware that our area is under a High Surf Advisory from now through Thursday at 6 PM. Large breaking waves of 9-13 feet are possible in the surf zone.

A Coastal Flood Warning is also in effect from 11 AM Wednesday through 4 AM Friday.

The storm will bring higher than expected tides and may cause some beach erosion.

Have you dusted your smoke detector and checked its batteries? Some smoke detectors work by reflecting a laser off a mirror. If the beam is interrupted, the alarm will sound.

Dust or small insects can interfere with the beam and cause the detector to malfunction

To minimize this, keep the smoke detectors free from dust. Change batteries after the alarm sounds to make sure batteries are good in case of an emergency.

Check the expiration date of your detectors. They only last for a maximum of 10 years.

Today from 10-1 is the final Artsy August across from the fire station. Come out and learn a little yoga or get a health check!

Local artists will have their crafts for sale. N.E.S.T. will be there to answer any questions you have about sea turtles. And free ice cream floats!

Storms on the beach can be quite spectacular to watch, but please remember safety first. If thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning can and does strike on the beach frequently during these storms.

This week they have fresh bagels, make your own sundae, and learn to grill a pizza!

Donations benefit the Carova Beach Volunteer Fire Department and will help us purchase a new fire tanker.
