The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather in the Bay of Campeche. There is a 40% chance this area will develop into a tropical system later this week, and if it does, it is expected to move toward the north through the Gulf. It will most likely remain east of our immediate area, but could push higher-than-normal swells toward the Texas coast and increase tides and the risk of rip currents.

There is high confidence that portions of the Brush Country and inland Coastal Plains will receive rainfall totals in excess of 6 inches through Friday morning, however confidence in the exact placement of these high totals (which may even approach or exceed 10 inches) is not high. Additionally the river flood risk remains uncertain as it will depend upon the exact placement of the heaviest rainfall.

Update from the National Weather Service

Abundant moisture ahead of a slow approaching cold front will lead to multiple days of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across South Texas Tuesday through this weekend, with the greatest coverage on Thursday and Friday. Total rainfall through Sunday ranges from 2-4", with locally higher amounts of 5-7". Persistent rainfall over the same area, along with high rainfall rates, will increase the risk of flash flooding. There is a marginal to slight risk of flash flooding Wednesday through Friday, with the greatest risk on Friday as the approaching cold front approaches. Some storms could become strong at times and produce winds up to 40-50 mph with hail less than 1". Severe weather is not expected at this time.

It's expected to be another hot week in the Coastal Bend region. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today and the temperatures are expected to remain elevated throughout the week. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous time outdoors, take frequent breaks if working outside, wear light-colored clothing, check on those most vulnerable to heat, and never leave people or pets inside a vehicle.

As a reminder, our Corpus Christi Public Libraries and Senior Centers are available during their regular operating hours to seek shelter from the heat.
