This past Saturday, the Newton County Fire Service Cadet Program had an outstanding day filled with hands-on training, teamwork, and valuable educational experiences. Our cadets had the opportunity to participate in a joint training event with the Oconee County Fire Rescue Cadet Program at the Covington/Newton County Fire Training Center.

Firefighters and cadet advisors from both departments came together to provide a full day of realistic and challenging training designed to further develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence of these young individuals as they explore potential careers in the fire service.

The day was divided into two portions, with the morning dedicated to hands-on training in several essential firefighting disciplines. Cadets rotated through training stations covering interior fire attack operations, ground ladder operations, and interior search and rescue techniques. These evolutions allowed cadets to work directly alongside experienced firefighters and advisors while strengthening their understanding of firefighting fundamentals, teamwork, communication, and operational safety.

During the afternoon, training transitioned into realistic, scenario-based evolutions that allowed cadets to put their newly developed skills to the test. Cadets were given the opportunity to respond into the training center aboard fire engines, simulating an emergency response before arriving on scene and carrying out assigned firefighting operations. These scenarios challenged cadets to apply the skills learned throughout the morning while working together as a team in a realistic training environment.

The entire day was a tremendous success for both departments. Not only did the cadets gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience, but the advisors and firefighters from both agencies also benefited from the opportunity to exchange ideas, instructional techniques, and experiences. The collaboration demonstrated the importance of building relationships between neighboring fire departments and the positive impact these partnerships can have on the development of future firefighters.

We sincerely hope this event will be the beginning of an ongoing partnership between our two cadet programs. Opportunities such as this provide tremendous benefits to everyone involved and help establish a strong foundation for the next generation of firefighters.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the fire administration of both departments for their continued support and for allowing this training opportunity to take place. Additionally, we want to recognize the dedicated cadet advisors, firefighters, and other personnel from both agencies who volunteered their time on a Saturday to make this event possible. Their willingness to invest their personal time, knowledge, and experience into these young individuals speaks volumes about their commitment to the fire service and the future of our profession.

Programs like these are only successful because of the individuals who believe in their purpose and are willing to dedicate their time and effort to helping our youth succeed.

We could not be more proud of the hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, and professionalism demonstrated by the cadets from both departments throughout the day. This was an incredible learning experience and a tremendous success for everyone involved.

Again, thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible. We look forward to continuing to build upon this partnership and providing even greater opportunities for our cadets in the future.

First and foremost, we want to extend a sincere thank you to TAKEDA for their incredibly generous donation of the Fire Gear and Gear Lockers. This project would not have been possible without their support. We are pleased to announce that all Gear Lockers have successfully been delivered to their designated stations. Shout Out to Chief Lumpkin and SO Willard for assisting with the pickup and delivery process, as well as to each station member who stepped up to help unload the lockers upon arrival. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools
outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These
batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they
fail. For more info: fpw.org.
