A major step forward for one of Covington’s most important transportation corridors.

The City of Covington has secured a $4.1 million federal grant to support roadway and pedestrian improvements along Winston Avenue/KY 16 in Latonia to make the corridor safer and more accessible for all.

“This grant is a significant investment in Latonia and an important step toward making Winston Avenue safer for all residents,” Mayor Ron Washington said. “I asked City staff to pursue federal funding grants to address the City’s infrastructure needs while reducing the burden on local taxpayers. Securing more than $4 million is a major breakthrough, but our work is not done; we will continue working with our partners to secure additional funding for the state route and accelerate these much-needed improvements.”

🚒 You may see Covington Fire Department crews testing fire hydrants over the next 4–6 weeks!

The Department will be conducting flow tests on hydrants across the city to ensure firefighters have accurate information about how much water each hydrant can provide during an emergency.

Testing may temporarily cause water discoloration in nearby homes. This is a temporary side effect of the process.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as our crews complete this important work to help keep Covington safe!

Nearly 90 years after passing away in the line of duty, Covington Firefighter Albert Krohman’s legacy of service is being honored among Kentucky’s fallen firefighters.

Krohman, who died in 1936 while serving the City, was recently added to the Kentucky Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Frankfort. The recognition was made possible thanks to his great-grandson sharing his story and a community determined to preserve his legacy.
