TCPL is commemorating 88 years of dedicated service to Tipton County this month!!!

In March of 1938, a library association was formed in the city of Covington. This was spearheaded by Mrs. Will Shoaf, chairman of the Unit Activities Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary, with the help of the Mentor Book Club, the Junior Book Club, the Book Club, the Lion’s Club, the P.T.A., the American Legion, the U.D.C., the Beethoven Club, and the Reverend Paul Sloan. This group of volunteers began building a collection of books with donations from local citizens throughout the county.
Space was donated by Mr. George Whitehead in the Sam Fortas Furniture Store located on East Liberty Street. Mrs. Stanley Shoaf and Mrs. Will Shoaf were in charge of cataloging and arranging the books. The library opened in October, with approximately 500 volumes.
