There’s nothing better than surprising a teacher with good news.

Clary Phillips recently stopped by Grassy Pond Elementary School in Cherokee County with a few special deliveries: Bright Ideas Educator Grant checks for local teachers.

And these teachers already know exactly how they’ll put them to work. Every dollar is headed straight into creating new opportunities for students.

This year, Broad River Electric Charities awarded $45,100.21 to 46 educators across Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties through the Bright Ideas Educator Grant program.

Best of all, our members helped make it happen. The grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where participating members round their monthly electric bills up to the next whole dollar. Those few extra cents add up, and in this case, they’re helping teachers turn great ideas into something their students can experience every day.

It takes a village 🍎📚

A new school year brings new teachers, new classrooms and plenty of excitement. But for some families, it can also bring the added worry of making sure their children have everything they need to start the year strong.

That’s where our community comes together.

This year, Broad River Electric Charities donated $11,000 to 20 local elementary schools, the Upstate Family Resource Center and Kids' Club to help provide back-to-school supplies and other resources students may need throughout the school year.

And our members helped make it possible.

Through Operation Round Up, participating members choose to round their monthly electric bill up to the next whole dollar. Those few extra cents each month are pooled together and put right back into the communities we serve.

A few cents may not seem like much on its own. Together, it can help make sure a local child walks into school ready to learn.

Thank you to our members for continuing to show what it means to take care of our neighbors.
