🏫 WHY IS HUGH B. BAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMED IN QUESTION 11?

The 2026 facilities assessment documented three cast-iron sectional boilers at Bain dating to 1971. Replacement parts are no longer available, and one unit was documented as out of service and leaking.

The assessment identified Bain’s heating equipment as an immediate zero-to-two-year need. It also documented the need for roof replacement.

Routine maintenance can extend the useful life of equipment, but it cannot manufacture discontinued parts or fully restore major components that have reached the end of their service lives. Likewise, delaying roof work can allow water to damage ceilings, walls, flooring and other building systems.

Question 11 specifically identifies Bain among the schools where projects may include aging boilers, roofs, heating systems and related controls. These are documented anticipated needs; final projects would depend on design, RIDE approval, procurement and available funding.

🏫 WHY IS PARK VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMED IN QUESTION 11?

The facilities assessment presented on March 4, 2026, identified high-priority heating and roof-replacement needs at Park View.

The assessment documented two 150-horsepower steam boilers dating to 1972. At approximately 54 years old, they are beyond the illustrated life-expectancy range for this equipment.

It also identified Park View’s roof for replacement. Addressing aging roofs helps protect buildings from water damage to ceilings, walls, insulation, electrical equipment and other systems.

Question 11 names Park View among the schools where eligible work may include boilers, roofs, heating systems and related controls. Final projects would depend on design, RIDE approval, procurement and available funding.
