Eastern Carolina Houndsmen Alliance — Remember 9/11
All we ask today is that you remember.
Remember September 11, 2001. Remember those who went to work that morning and never came home. Remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger when every instinct told them to run away.
But also remember what happened afterward. Remember when Americans stood in line to donate blood for strangers. Remember when people carried supplies, brought food, opened their homes and simply asked, “What can I do to help?” Remember when neighbor helped neighbor.
For those of us in the hound community, that word neighbor should mean something. Our heritage has always depended on community—people helping one another, looking out for one another and lending a hand when somebody needs it. You don’t have to agree on everything to treat someone with kindness and respect. You don’t have to know someone’s name to recognize that they are your neighbor.
Twenty-five years later, America can feel very different from the country we remember in the days following 9/11. We argue about politics, property lines, hunting, dogs and a hundred other things. But September 11 should remind us that our differences don’t have to make us enemies.
Today, remember those we lost. Remember those who ran toward danger. Remember the courage, sacrifice and unity that followed.
And maybe the best way we can honor them is something very simple: be a good neighbor.
Neighbor helping neighbor. Houndsman helping houndsman. American helping American.
Never Forget.
