SCAM ALERT – FAKE VERIZON WIRELESS OFFER

We’ve recently become aware of a scam involving a message claiming that Verizon Wireless is offering a “lifetime free phone plan” for a one-time $250 subscription fee.

THIS OFFER IS NOT REAL. Verizon has not announced or authorized a lifetime free phone plan for $250.

Scammers may make these offers look very legitimate by using Verizon’s name, logo, and professional-looking advertisements. They may ask you to send money or provide personal or financial information to take advantage of the “offer.”

Don’t fall for it!

* ❌ Don’t send money.
* ❌ Don’t provide your Social Security number, passwords, or banking information.
* ❌ Don’t click suspicious links.
* ✅ If you receive an offer like this, verify it directly with Verizon using a trusted phone number or Verizon’s official website.

Remember: If an offer sounds too good to be true, take a moment to verify it before you act.

Please share this information with family and friends especially those who may be targeted by these types of scams.

Reminder with this week's garage sales.

🚗🛍️ CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE PARKING REMINDER 🛍️🚗

We know the deals are amazing. We know that vintage lamp, barely-used treadmill, or box of mystery treasures is calling your name.

However, finding a bargain does NOT come with a free pass to park wherever you want. 😅

Please remember:
✅ Do not block driveways
✅ Do not park in intersections
✅ Do not park too close to stop signs or fire hydrants
✅ Do not block sidewalks
✅ Follow all posted parking regulations

Our officers will be out and about during the City-Wide Garage Sales.

Vehicles parked illegally may be subject to enforcement action, including parking citations.

The only thing that should be a steal this weekend is the deal you found at a garage sale—not the parking spot you weren't supposed to use.

Thank you for helping make the City-Wide Garage Sales safe and enjoyable for everyone!

REMINDER - TONIGHT

🏈💥 Touchdowns Hit Different This Friday Night! 💥🏈

Cadet fans, you may hear a little extra BOOM at Friday night’s home football game vs. Decorah!

⚠️ Please be aware: The sound will be approximately 150 decibels at the source, comparable to a large firework. We want families and spectators to know ahead of time so everyone can be prepared.

You may have wondered... why was a Cresco PD officer on Highway 63 in Chickasaw County yesterday?

The Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau multi-jurisdictional project targets speeding on major roads in counties. Yesterday, Officer Rush with the Cresco Police Department and deputies with the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office participated in this project together on Highway 63 in Chickasaw County. This project helps to keep our roads safe.

Thank you, Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office for doing this project with us!
