Crooked River Ranch consists of 10,000 acres of rural residential, recreational, and commercial properties with over 5,000 permanent residents. In 1977, the property owners of Crooked River Ranch formed the Crooked River Ranch Rural Fire Protection District (CRRRFPD) which was staffed entirely by volunteers. Today, we are a full-service department staffed with career and volunteer firefighters who are highly-trained in fire suppression, rope rescue, and emergency medical services. In addition to emergency response services, we also provide education and prevention services to our community.

BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS, THANKS TO SDAO!

At Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue, keeping our community informed, educated, and connected is an important part of what we do. Thanks to funding from the Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO) Internship Grant Program, we've been able to expand our communication and outreach efforts! Special Districts Association of Oregon

This grant made it possible to introduce a Marketing & Communications Internship, creating an opportunity to strengthen our public outreach while showcasing the people and work behind our department.

Throughout the internship, we've been able to focus on several key areas:

📱 Digital Outreach: Creating engaging social media content, sharing department updates, and increasing our online presence.

🔥 Community Education: Developing resources and campaigns covering fire prevention, emergency preparedness, burn registration, and other important safety topics.

🚒 Behind the Scenes: Giving our community a closer look at firefighter training, emergency responses, and daily operations through photography and video.

👨‍🚒 Recruitment & Recognition: Sharing the stories of our firefighters and volunteers while encouraging others to get involved.

🤝 Community Involvement: Highlighting local events and department initiatives.

Beyond the content created, this internship has helped strengthen how we communicate with our community and share the dedication that goes into serving Crooked River Ranch.

Programs like the SDAO Internship Grant make a meaningful difference for smaller districts, providing opportunities to take on projects and initiatives that might otherwise be difficult to accomplish.

To the Special Districts Association of Oregon, thank you for making this opportunity possible and for supporting the continued growth of Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue!

Meet Jason!

Jason is 23 years old and originally from Albany, Oregon. After recently completing summer fire academy, he is beginning his first year as a firefighter with Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue while also pursuing his associate degree in Fire Science.

Jason's favorite part about being at Crooked River Ranch is the family atmosphere. Even as a new member, he has felt welcomed and appreciates the close-knit relationships among the crew.

His passion for firefighting comes from his love for helping others and being involved in the community. He hopes to make a positive difference in people's lives while working toward his long-term goal of becoming a career Firefighter Paramedic in the valley.

“I enjoy being part of the community and having the opportunity to give back and help others.”

We're excited to have Jason as part of the CRRFR family!

Soft surface? Hard pass!

Never charge your phone, tablet, or other device on a bed, couch, pillow, or other soft surface. These materials can trap heat and increase the risk of overheating. Always charge devices on a hard, flat surface with plenty of airflow.

And remember: avoid charging devices under your pillow or while you sleep.

For tools and rides, charge outside!

E-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and other larger lithium-ion battery-powered devices need extra care when charging. Charge them in a safe location away from exits and combustible materials, use the manufacturer-approved charger, and never leave them charging unattended or overnight.

Safe charging habits can help prevent battery fires before they start. 🔥

On a flight? Keep it in sight! ✈️

When traveling, keep phones, laptops, power banks, and other lithium-ion battery devices with you in the aircraft cabin, not in checked luggage when prohibited or restricted. If a device starts overheating, smoking, expanding, or acting unusually, notify a flight attendant immediately.

A little battery awareness can go a long way, even at 30,000 feet!

Feels hot? Stop using it! 📱

If your phone, tablet, laptop, or other rechargeable device feels unusually hot, smells strange, changes shape, leaks, or makes unusual noises, stop using it immediately and move away from it. These can be warning signs of a damaged or failing lithium-ion battery.

Unplug it if you can do so safely, move away from the device, and do not throw it in the regular trash or recycling. Damaged lithium-ion batteries should be taken to an appropriate battery/electronics disposal location.

When it comes to battery safety, don’t ignore the warning signs.

🔋 Fully charged? Time to unplug!

As we continue Fire Prevention Week, here’s a simple habit that can make a big difference: unplug your device once it’s fully charged.

Avoid leaving devices charging longer than necessary, and always follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions. Small changes to the way we charge our devices can help reduce fire risks and keep our homes safer. 🔥

It's Fire Prevention Week! | October 4–10

This year, we're joining the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in spreading awareness for their 2026 Fire Prevention Week campaign: *Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower! 🔋

We're kicking off the week with a simple reminder: Cheap Charger? Don't Chance It!

Using the wrong charger can damage your device's battery and increase the risk of fire. Always use the charging cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

Small actions can make a BIG difference in keeping your home and family safe!

Follow along this week as we share more fire prevention tips with our community.
