It is our intention to provide you an online community police presence with our department and aid in community outreach and education. Cross Plains Police Department is made up of a Chief, Lieutenant/Detective, four Patrol Officers, and an Administrative Assistant. We try to maintain round the clock staffing, 24/7. Due to training, illness, training, vacation, and days off (yes, even our officers need time away from the job); there may be periods of time where an officer is not readily available. Messages can be left for officers. To accomplish the Mission of the Cross Plains Police Department we hold these core values at the HEART of our service. Honor: We believe in serving our community with honesty, fairness, and integrity, while holding ourselves accountable always. Excellence: We believe in personal and professional excellence, dedication to duty, and humble service to others. Adaptability: We believe in being flexible, not only to the changing social climate and evolving technologies but to individual situations as they unfold. Respect: We believe in seeing the best in people and focusing on their abilities, qualities, and strengths, while having due regard for their feelings, wishes, rights, and traditions. Teamwork: We believe in cooperation, collaboration, and unity among ourselves, members of the community, and all village departments to achieve common goals. Disclaimer

The Cross Plains Police Department is investigating a crash involving a school bus and a bicycle that occurred today at approximately 3:47 p.m.

The safety and security of our children is our highest priority. We remind all motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to remain alert, exercise caution, and be especially mindful of one another in areas where children are present.

Dear Residents:

As you may already be aware, the Village has been planning for water main replacement in along a stretch of Thinnes Street from approximately 3103 Thinnes Street to the east Village limit (near 3311 Thinnes Street) this fall. The work is being done in conjunction with street reconstruction along the same area being done as part of the Marchstone development.

The contractor anticipates starting excavation work as early as the week of October 5th. The work during that first week will consist of closing the street to through traffic and removing existing pavements. Staging of equipment and materials may start before then. As construction commences, there are several items that are important to know.

The work will replace all the existing water main, complete reconstruction of the existing street pavement, construction of a new asphalt path along the south side, and spot replacement of the curb and gutter.

James Peterson Sons, Inc. is the Village contractor for the water main work. RJ Huston is the contractor for the developers work to reconstruct the roadway. After initial pavement removal, water main work will begin.

During the installation of the new water main, there will be periods of time (2-4 hours) when some residents will be without water service. Because of the location of the existing water main, almost all homes will need temporary water connections via above-ground piping or hoses. This will be done entirely by the contractor. The contractor will notify all affected residents prior to any scheduled service interruptions. Water shut-downs will be required to tie the new main into the existing water main, and also during the switch-over from a home's old lateral to its new lateral.

The contractor will maintain access to all homes as much as possible during construction. However, there will be periods of time that trenching will cross driveways or intersections and will require temporary closures. Residents will be notified prior to any driveway closure so they may move their vehicles, if needed. The Contractor will attempt to restore access to driveways as soon as practicable, but there may be periods/locations where on-street parking will be necessary (either on the project site or sidestreets).

During the construction of the new curb and gutter and new concrete driveways, no traffic will be allowed on the new concrete for seven (7) days to allow the concrete to harden properly. The work will require replacement of all water laterals which involves excavation from the main to your property line (approximately 15 feet from the current road edge). Any residents with landscaping, sprinkler lines, invisible fence, or other private items in or around the area are advised to have them relocated prior to construction beginning to avoid damage.

Emergency vehicles will have access throughout the project. For garbage pick-up, please mark your garbage bins with your address and simply bring them out to the street on the usual day. Mail service may need to be temporarily relocated to a nearby intersection if requested by the post office. More information on this will be provided if needed.

It is anticipated that local resident access along the entirety of the project will be open at the end of each day. During construction a representative from Town & Country Engineering will be present. He can be reached at 608-477-5998 and is a good first point of contact should any questions or concerns arise before, during, or after construction.

Please feel free to contact the Village or Town & Country Engineering (608-273-3350) with any questions you have about the project. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated and will help ensure a successful project.

🚌 School Bus Safety Reminder 🚸

As students head back to school, please remember that getting to and from school safely is everyone’s responsibility.

🛑 Stop for school buses when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

đźš— Give buses plenty of space and watch carefully for children entering or exiting the bus.

đź‘€ Slow down in school zones and be especially alert during morning and afternoon pickup times.

📵 Stay focused on driving and put distractions away.

❤️ Remember: a few extra seconds of patience can help protect a child.

Let’s work together to keep our students, families, and school bus drivers safe this school year.

Slow down. Stay alert. Stop for the bus. 🚌
