Washington Engine Company No. 2 One of five all-volunteer fire companies within the Croton Volunteer Fire Department. We are the largest of the companies, featuring nearly 50 active members.

Organized in 1892, we have remained 100% volunteer, just like the other four fire companies in the Croton Fire Department.

A busy & productive night at WECO!

Members worked together pulling and repacking nearly 1,500 feet of hose on Engine 119 last evening. The combination of recent hose testing & discussions about ways to “make the stretch” quicker came to fruition, with all of our primary hose lines being reconfigured.

Following this, our monthly meeting was held where we welcomed two new members to The Northside. Both of these gentlemen will now be sent to the Department’s Fire Council for approval and will soon begin their training to be active members.

During the meeting, we turned out for an additional two calls (a total of three on the day). First up Tanker 10 went to the reported boiler explosion in Ossining while Engine 119 stood by as a FASTeam. No fire or hazard occurred at the location and - once able to clear the scene - T10 returned to Quarters. Following this run, E119 & U14 responded to a propane leak on Glengary Road with E118, E120, R18 & U208. E119 assumed 2nd Due duties at a hydrant while Lt. Gallagher assisted those inside from the other companies.

So far in September we’ve answered over 30 calls for assistance, and over 350 for the year.

WECO is always looking to add members to our Company, why not give us a shout or stop by our Firehouse at North Riverside Avenue & High Street anytime you see the doors open.

Over the past week, the members of Washington Engine weren’t just busy, they were consistently busy.

Throughout the week, WECO members put in several hours getting the Engine ready for the Ossining FD parade - which ultimately ended up being cancelled.

On Monday evening, we participated in Department training, reviewing the CFD’s boats Marine 12 and Marine 32.

On Tuesday, we helped staff Marine 12 for Croton Police’s “National Night Out” event while also tending to our clean up detail.

In addition to this, we answered 14 calls for service, which included a couple of Motor-Vehicle Accidents, storm-related calls, an oil spill, a dumpster fire and a 4th Alarm fire in Ossining.

On Saturday, following the Ossining job, our members cleaned all 3 apparatus & equipment used, and had our annual Company Picnic. Even though it was a “day of relaxation & rest” for the members, we sent all 3 Company rigs back to Ossining to help extinguish some flare ups at the scene of the prior night’s fire.

We pride ourselves on our ability to always answer the call and are grateful for our membership for all that they do. We also appreciate the help & camaraderie from our friends at Grand Street Firehouse that are there for us when we need them too. (Much love & appareciation to Engine 118 & Columbian Hook & Ladder Co. #1 )

Interested in becoming a part of the ? Stop by the firehouse at the bottom of High Street any Monday evening or anytime you see the doors open to see how you, too, can be a part of our crew!

The other morning, Tanker 10 was requested to relocate to the Tarrytown FD as they operated at a house fire with water supply issues.

A crew of four - including Lt. Frank “The Garden Gnome” Streany” - along with Car 2081 answered this call.
