Croton On Hudson Emergency Medical Services Croton-on-Hudson Emergency Medical Services provides ambulance service to the Village of Croton

Croton-on-Hudson Emergency Medical Services is a volunteer organization, assisted by Paid Staffing. That means that although there is always one paid EMT/Driver on duty 24/7, they require a volunteer EMT or Driver to complete a crew. Much of the time, the Paid staff does not need to crew the ambulance, due to the presence to of a volunteer EMT and Driver.

On the ballot in Croton voters: a Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) for Croton EMS volunteers. LOSAP is a modest benefit later in life for those who actively serve for years, just like Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department members have. Last year our Croton EMS volunteers answered over 1,000 calls and gave nearly 13,000 hours, all while maintaining careers and raising their families. Early voting is open now. Vote YES for the Croton EMS Length of Service Award Program by November 3rd.

❤️🚑 A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR MUTUAL AID PARTNERS! 🚑❤️

Croton EMS would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Montrose Fire Department, Verplanck Fire Department/EMS, and OVAC for stepping up and providing mutual aid and support for today’s Annual Harry Chapin Run. Your crews helped ensure we had the resources and coverage needed throughout the event, and we truly appreciate your willingness to answer the call and support our community.

A special thank you also goes out to the members of Croton EMS who came in to supplement our EMT coverage, trail bike coverage, and those who helped cover the finish line. Your dedication, flexibility, and commitment to keeping everyone safe did not go unnoticed.

And we want to give a special shout-out to our Croton EMS Youth Corps member, Mary McAndrew, for stepping up and helping out! ❤️ Your willingness to be there and be part of the team makes us incredibly proud.

🚨 A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO JIMMY’S LAWNS! 🚨
We are incredibly grateful for your generous donation of a UTV for Croton EMS to use for the day. Having the UTV available was a tremendous help in allowing our crews to access the course and provide coverage throughout the event. Your generosity and support of Croton EMS and our community truly mean so much!

Events like this are a true reminder that EMS is a team effort. We are fortunate to have such incredible neighboring agencies, local businesses, and dedicated members who are always willing to come together when our community needs us.

From all of us at Croton EMS — THANK YOU! ❤️🚑

Mutual aid, teamwork, generosity, and community — that’s what it’s all about!

Up next in our member series is Liz Poling-Hiraldo! Born in the South Bronx, Liz spent much of her adult life in Manhattan and Brooklyn before moving to Croton 14 years ago. She has been a member of Croton EMS for three years and currently serves as Secretary. Liz wanted to join Croton EMS soon after moving here, but life kept getting busier. When her son, Aden, joined our Youth Corps, she admits she was a little jealous! In 2023, with more control over her schedule, she finally enrolled in an EMT class at Phelps Hospital. Liz has a long history of giving back: she co-founded the Croton Face Mask Makers, led local Girl Scout troops, served as a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts, and taught CPR and Stop the Bleed for about a decade. Professionally, she is Chief of Staff, SVP Product Development at Optimum, and has spent the past 20 years in digital product management and operations. Liz holds a black belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and enjoys nearly every fiber art there is, from quilting to spinning to embroidery. She also loves playing Scrabble with her college-age twins and fosters cats for a local veterinarian, including one mama cat who chose to give birth right beside her in bed!

In September, Croton EMS responded to 87 calls for service. On top of this, our members attended a number of community events and our Youth Corps program has picked back up with the commencement of the school year.

As always, we appreciate our close friends at Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, Croton PD, Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.

On November 3rd, Croton voters decide on a LOSAP program for Croton EMS volunteers. LOSAP is a moderate retirement benefit paid to volunteers later in life. It is a defined benefit based on number of years of active service to our community. Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department volunteers have had a similar program since 2003, and many of our neighboring volunteer EMS agencies maintain similar programs for their members.
