๐Ÿ”‹๐Ÿ›’ SAFETY STARTS BEFORE YOU PLUG IT IN.

When shopping for rechargeable devices, replacement batteries or chargers, price and convenience shouldn't be the only things you consider. Take a moment to check that the product has been tested and certified by a recognized testing laboratory.

Not sure what you're looking for? Check the product, packaging or labeling for a recognized certification mark, such as UL or ETL. These marks indicate that the product has been evaluated to applicable safety standards.

A few smart shopping habits can help:
๐Ÿ”Ž Look for recognized safety certification.
๐Ÿ”‹ Choose batteries and chargers designed for your device.
๐Ÿ›’ Purchase from reputable manufacturers and retailers.
โš ๏ธ Be cautious of products with missing labels, unclear manufacturer information or questionable replacement parts.

Fire safety doesn't begin when you plug something in โ€” it begins with what you bring into your home.

๐Ÿ”ฅ COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE | HERNANDO

Citrus County Fire Rescue responded Tuesday afternoon to a commercial structure fire on E. McDonald Ln. in Hernando.

The fire involved an electrical light fixture above a drop ceiling. The business had been evacuated, and the manager used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire before firefighters arrived. Crews confirmed the fire had not spread into the area above the ceiling and ventilated the building. No injuries were reported, and damage was minor.

Following the incident, a CCFR Fire Inspector conducted an inspection and identified several fire and life-safety items requiring correction. The business owner is addressing those items.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire inspections are about prevention. They help identify hazards before they contribute to an injury, delay an evacuation, or make an emergency more dangerous.

โœ”๏ธ Keep exits and pathways clear.
โœ”๏ธ Maintain required fire extinguishers and safety equipment.
โœ”๏ธ Use cooking and electrical equipment safely.
โœ”๏ธ Correct identified hazards before an emergency occurs.

Fire codes aren't just requirementsโ€”they are safeguards designed to protect employees, customers, first responders, and our community.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฑ YOUR BED IS FOR SLEEPING โ€” NOT CHARGING!

We charge our phones, tablets and other devices every day, but where we charge them matters.

Beds, couches, pillows and other soft surfaces can trap heat around a device and battery while itโ€™s charging. Instead, place rechargeable devices on a hard, flat surface where heat can safely dissipate.

A few simple habits can make a difference:
๐Ÿ”‹ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Keep them off beds, couches and pillows.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Give devices plenty of space while charging.
๐Ÿ‘€ Keep an eye on devices while they charge.

During Fire Prevention Week, take a look around your home and make sure your family's favorite charging spots are also safe ones.

๐Ÿ”‹โšก CHARGE SMART. USE THE RIGHT CHARGER.

We all have that drawer full of extra charging cords and adapters. But when it comes to charging your devices, grabbing whichever one happens to fit isnโ€™t always the safest choice.

As we continue Fire Prevention Week, todayโ€™s tip is simple: Use the charging cord and adapter that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

Using the wrong charger can damage a lithium-ion battery and increase the risk of fire.

Before you plug in, take a second to make sure youโ€™re using the right equipment. Itโ€™s a small habit that can make a big difference. ๐Ÿ”Œ
