This plan is incredibly important to ensuring water resources are available for fighting fires in our remote communities. Please take the time to review the proposed rules and send in your comments to speak up BEFORE you are faced with catastrophic fire events in your neighborhood.

PLEASE READ... YOU can help to decide how much LOCAL voice gets built into regional water planning!

The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC) has released the draft guidelines under the Water Security Planning Act (WSPA) and is inviting public input through August 31, 2026. The draft guidelines complement Rule 19.25.16 NMAC, which took effect April 9, 2026, and lay out a practical roadmap for how each region will build its own water security plan.

The draft guidelines describe the five-stage planning process, Organize, Explore, Prioritize, Plan and Action, that each region will follow, and the many ways New Mexicans can take part: self-identifying as a potential regional planning council at-large member, joining as a region-specific stakeholder, or competing for planning and project funding. In short, they decide how much local voice gets built into regional water planning, which is why reviewing the draft and sharing feedback now matters.

Review the draft guidelines and submit your input through August 31, 2026, using the links below.

READ the draft guidelines and provide PUBLIC COMMENT at https://mainstreamnm.org/

Our community is safer through collaborations like this. CUBA FIRE is proud to support our partner organizations at Cuba, NM Police Department Sandoval County Sheriff's Office and Cuba Schools.

Multi-Agency School Safety Planning

Today, the Cuba Police Department joined Cuba Independent Schools, the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, and Cuba Fire Department for a multi-agency tabletop meeting focused on emergency preparedness and school safety.

In attendance were the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Cuba Schools, School Resource Officers, command staff from the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office and Cuba Police Department, and representatives from Cuba Fire Department.

The purpose of today’s meeting was to bring our agencies together to discuss, plan, and coordinate how we would respond to an emergency occurring at one of our schools. By working through potential scenarios and discussing the roles and responsibilities of each agency, we can identify areas for improvement and strengthen our ability to operate together during a critical incident.

When an emergency occurs, it is not the time for agencies to meet for the first time or determine how they will work together. That coordination must happen beforehand.

The safety of our children, teachers, and school staff is a shared responsibility. Meetings like today’s help ensure that law enforcement, fire personnel, school administrators, and School Resource Officers are working from a coordinated approach with one goal in mind: protecting our children and our community.

We appreciate Cuba Schools, the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, and Cuba Fire Department for their partnership and commitment to making our schools safer.

Preparation. Coordination. Partnership.
