The Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Task Force will present Culpeper’s Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, October 20 at 6 p.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church.

The candlelight vigil will bring members of the community together to recognize the impact of domestic violence and raise awareness around the issue.

This year’s honored speaker is Tara Petito, stepmom of Gabby Petito, with The Gabby Petito Foundation.

A question-and-answer session will follow Ms. Petito’s remarks. Due to time constraints, questions must be submitted in advance. Those interested in submitting a question can do so here:

We encourage members of the community to join us for this meaningful evening of remembrance, support, and awareness.

INFORMATION FOR VERIZON LANDLINE CUSTOMERS

Verizon has asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for permission to discontinue traditional copper-based landline telephone service in portions of Virginia, including parts of Culpeper County.

Verizon has stated that no customer will lose copper service unless a replacement voice service is available at that location. Replacement options could include fiber, cable, fixed wireless or mobile wireless service.

Culpeper County is monitoring the proceeding and coordinating with the Virginia Association of Counties and neighboring counties. Residents who currently use a traditional landline are encouraged to review the County’s notice for important dates, information about submitting comments to the FCC, and guidance on what to do if Verizon contacts you.

The Carver Food Enterprise Center is doing more than providing commercial kitchen space. It is helping local entrepreneurs launch businesses, connecting farmers with new markets, supporting school meal programs and turning surplus food into thousands of meals for the community.

In the first installment of Culpeper County’s Community Series, we take a closer look at CFEC’s work, from Feeding 500 and Farm to School projects to new opportunities for local producers, including a planned bone broth co-packing line.

The article also highlights CFEC’s next phase of growth and the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors’ recent approval of $100,000 in Grant Match funding to support the center’s planned expansion.

A big thank you to Culpeper County’s volunteer firefighters for their response to a semi-trailer fire at the County Transfer Station on Friday, August 28.

Crews worked for nearly three hours to bring the fire under control, using approximately 36,000 gallons of water. Firefighters maintained a steady water supply throughout the response, allowing suppression efforts to continue without interruption.

Despite the size of the response, the Transfer Station remained open and continued serving residents while crews worked to contain the fire.

We are grateful to the volunteer firefighters who responded, along with Transfer Station, Environmental Services and emergency management staff who assisted throughout the incident. Their coordination and teamwork helped bring the situation to a safe conclusion while minimizing disruption to the public.
