What a day at our district-wide Reality Fair, hosted at Mountain Ridge! 💸🏠🚗

Today, students from across the district stepped into the "real world." Each student was handed a career, a salary, and a life situation, then had to make it work: finding housing, buying a car, paying for groceries, childcare, insurance, and everything in between.

There were plenty of eye-opening moments ("Wait, THAT'S how much daycare costs?!" 😅) and some great conversations about budgeting, saving, and planning for the future. 💵📊

A huge THANK YOU to Mountain Ridge for hosting, and to all of the volunteers who staffed booths and shared their time and real-life experience with our students. We couldn't do it without you! 🙌

Thank you to the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce / for partnering with ACPS on our first-ever State of the Schools at the Cumberland Country Club! 🤝

Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano shared our 2025–2026 Annual Report with business and community leaders, looking at where we were last year, where we are now, and where we're going.

We also celebrated our students and honored those who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the ACPS community. We are so proud of you! 💙

Together, we're building a school system where every student climbs to higher altitudes. ⛰️

🎓 ACPS Student Spotlight: Abigail Moore

We’re proud to recognize Abigail Moore of Allegany High School as part of a student spotlight initiative shared at a recent Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) meeting!

Abigail shares how AP and Dual Enrollment courses have helped her learn at a pace that works for her and prepare for her future. She also recognized two educators who have played an important role in her academic journey: Anne Stark and Dr. Kay Sheehe.

Thank you to Abigail for sharing her story and to the dedicated educators who make a lasting difference in the lives of our students! 💙

Allegany County Association of Student Councils (ACASC) had their opening picnic last week on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Constitution Park in Cumberland.

The group’s mission is to strive to bring together the public schools of Allegany County in providing quality leadership, service, education, and friendship between the schools and the community.

ACASC is led by student executive board members, Ethan Kwok (President), Aureliah Israel (Vice-President), Adaline Carder (Student Member of the Board), Katelynn Gaumer (Parliamentarian), Penny Bogart (Public Relations Officer), Kristina Kucher (Secretary) and Luke Reinhardt (2nd VP- middle school representative).

These student leaders created and facilitated workshops along with team building exercises. The workshops included service learning projects, and ways to improve communication and leadership skills.
