The First Battalion spent time today completing quarterly off-duty training at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) Western Maryland Regional Training Center, focusing on window bailouts and the Nance Drill.

These hands-on evolutions reinforce firefighter survival, rapid escape techniques, and the skills needed to operate safely when conditions deteriorate quickly.

As part of a proud national tradition dating back to 1954, the City of Cumberland Firefighters take to local streets to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the iconic "Fill the Boot" campaign. Affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), these local first responders (IAFF Local 203) dedicate their time to gathering critical funds directly from community members. The generous contributions collected in their boots help fuel groundbreaking research for neuromuscular diseases like muscular dystrophy and ALS, fund specialized care centers, and support life-changing programs—such as accessible summer camps—that empower affected children and adults to live more independent lives. 🚒🚑🇺🇸❤️

Today we honor and remember our fallen brother, Firefighter/EMT Kelly Frye. Gone but definitely not forgotten.

Last night, the Cumberland Fire Department held a special Badge Ceremony honoring our recruits who successfully completed the fire academy and are now assigned to their crews.

The ceremony was an opportunity to recognize the hard work, dedication, and commitment these firefighters have shown throughout their training. It was also a special moment for their families, who had the honor of officially pinning their badges as they begin this next chapter of their careers.

Congratulations to:
FF/EMT Chris Bailey
FF/EMT Curtis Lammy
FF/EMT Jordan Leach
FF/EMT Heather McDonald
FF/EMT Keegan Robinson
FF/EMT Robert Smith
FF/EMT William Spencer

Congratulations to each of these firefighters on this important milestone. We are proud of your accomplishments and look forward to watching you continue to grow and serve the citizens of Cumberland.

Welcome to the crew!
