Margie decided to create a display in the library to coincide with the completion of the Oral History project. The 4th and final volume of the illustrated oral history transcripts has been published. Margie started this project back in 2012 when she began digitizing the oral history interviews that were in the library's Appalachian Collection. Then the huge undertaking of transcribing the interviews began several years later. All 191 interviews are now transcribed and illustrated in the printed volumes. The printed volumes may be checked out of the library. The illustrated transcripts and audio files are also available online at https://www.allegany.edu/oral-history/. The display in the library contains some artifacts that illustrate some of the more common interview topics, such as coal mining, railroading, and the C&O Canal. Artifacts are on loan from Glenn Burns and Margie. Stop by the Learning Commons Library to check it out!

The ACM Learning Commons has completed Volume 4 of its Oral History Project, bringing the collection to all 191 interviews dating back to the project’s beginnings in 1975.

Volume 4 includes interviews with current ACM President David Jones, along with stories and memories from members of our local community. Thanks to the continued work of the Learning Commons, all four volumes are now available in the library and online, with recordings and transcripts that help preserve the history of our region for generations to come.

September 11, 2001 is a day that will never be forgotten. The United States faced its worst terrorist attack in history. Almost 3,000 people were killed that day in New York City, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA. Thousands more have died since from illnesses related to environmental exposures around the World Trade Center debris in New York City. Margie put together a small display to remember those killed and honor the heroes of that day. We have many books and DVDs that may be checked out, including some children's books that would be helpful in explaining the attacks to younger children. There's a handout with the timeline of events that happened that day, as well as some ribbons that you can take. The display will be up for a little while, so stop in to check it out.

Margie put together a small display in memory of Dolly Parton that contains the few items that are available in the Learning Commons Library. Dolly died yesterday, August 25th at the age of 80, after a brief battle with cancer. She had battled other health issues as well. Dolly was a true national treasure, and she will be remembered for a long time. She was a songwriter, singer, author, actor, savvy businesswoman, a major philanthropist, and so much more. Her Imagination Library has given away over 300 million books to children to encourage them to read. The library has two books and two DVDs that may be signed out. If you want to remember Dolly in a special way, you can donate to her Imagination Library at https://imaginationlibrary.com/

Margie put together a fun display about the history of technology. This display was inspired by a donation from Paul Haberlein, former ACM VP of Finance, of the very first IBM personal computer that was released in 1981. Margie got the idea of tracing the history of both computers (including handheld devices) and telephones. There is a timeline with the development of the different technologies. Most traditional age college students weren't even alive when many of these technologies were developed. It will surprise you when you realize how long ago some of these technologies were developed! Stop by the library and check out the display!
