A free flow of ideas is necessary to a democratic society so that citizens may make informed choices about their personal lives, their group activities and associations, and their government. Because a vibrant, informed community ensures the future, the Library serves by collecting and organizing materials, offering reader’s advisory service and programs of interest to specific groups, and reference and referral assistance. The Library believes in the freedom to learn, read and discover and serves all people without regard for age, s*x, religious or ethnic background, political affiliation, educational ability or economic status. The Library promotes literacy and a love of reading, but adapts and innovates to stay relevant to patrons' changing needs and interests. The Library enriches lives by fostering lifelong learning and by ensuring that every member of the community has access to a vast array of ideas and information.

This Wednesday, our new season of StoryMakers begins! Storymakers is a monthly program for kids in grades K-3 with their caregivers that combines storytime, playing, and making, celebrating all abilities, voices, and forms of self-expression, and encouraging kids to engage with books, the world, and each other in their own unique way.

Each program opens with a read aloud before exploring different maker stations (including the kid-favorite cardboard creation station) where children can play, tinker, create, and share their own stories.

This program is one in a 6-part SEL (social-emotional learning) series, running every third Wednesday from Oct. 2026 - Mar. 2027.The first month focuses broadly on SEL, with each subsequent month focusing more specifically on one of the CASEL 5 competencies: (1) self-awareness, (2) self-management, (3) social awareness, (4) relationship skills, (5) responsible decision-making.

You do not need to attend each session to participate. Sessions do not build on each other--they are standalone events. Attend one, all, or whichever event(s) work with your schedule. We're always happy to see you!

Registration is required. You must register each child separately to reserve each individual spot (i.e. one child per registration form). Please note in the registration form if your child has any allergies or accessibility needs. An adult caregiver must participate with their child at the event. Kids are invited to create "Franken-Art" during their October library visit! The rules are simple: grab a piece of cardstock and some supplies from the children's information desk... and that's the only rule! Create a piece of artwork of your own design.
