A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the Certified Local Government (CLG) program with the Kentucky Heritage Council. I’m interested in whether Cynthiana could be a good fit for the program. Becoming a CLG helps communities preserve their historic character and provides resources, technical support, and potential grants. Before moving forward, I’d like to connect with residents who care about historic preservation and want to help explore what this program could mean for Cynthiana.

If you care about our historic downtown, architecture, old buildings, or want to help preserve what makes our community unique, I’d like to hear from you. This is just a first conversation, but I think it’s worth learning more and exploring what opportunities may be available for our community. If you’re interested, please message me or comment below.

You can learn more about the program here:

Review the Kentucky CLG Manual for a full discussion of the program, benefits, and requirements for participating communities.

On the edge of Cynthiana, Kentucky, a small Bluegrass farm town surrounded by cattle pasture, there's a factory that quietly supplies the entire planet with one of the most recognizable office products ever invented. 📝

Every single Post-it Note sold anywhere in the world is made at the 3M plant in Cynthiana, Harrison County. The plant turns out an estimated 80 billion notes a year in more than 300 varieties, plus the bulk of the country's Scotch packing tape supply. One manufacturing coordinator put it simply: "Every Post-it Note in the world starts here. That's a big deal."

It's easy to drive past Cynthiana and never guess that the little yellow squares stuck to monitors and refrigerators all over the globe all trace back to this one Kentucky town. The plant has been running there since 1984, and it's now the largest employer in the city. 🏭

Did you know Kentucky makes every Post-it Note in the world?

📣 CYNTHIANA-HARRISON COUNTY- WE NEED YOUR HELP!

There is A LOT happening in our community this fall, and we need your help making sure people know about it!

Supporting local tourism doesn’t always mean volunteering for hours or making a donation. Sometimes one of the most valuable things you can do is simply share a post, tell a friend, tag someone who should participate, or invite someone to Cynthiana.

Right now, there are five things we especially need your help spreading the word about:

🎨 AMERICA250 MURAL MOSAIC

There’s still time to become part of a permanent piece of Cynthiana-Harrison County history!

Hundreds of individually painted tiles from people throughout Harrison County will come together to create one large community mural celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, and you can paint one!

Tiles are $18 each and can be picked up at:

📍 City Hall
141 E. Pike Street
🕣 Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-4:00 PM
Closed for lunch 11:45-12:30

Pick up a tile for yourself, your family, business, church, organization or group and help us make sure this mural truly represents all of Harrison County.

👉 HOW YOU CAN HELP: Paint a tile AND share this opportunity with someone who may not have heard about the project yet!

🇺🇸 THE 2026 TIME CAPSULE

In July, we opened the time capsule buried during Cynthiana’s Bicentennial in 1976. Now, 50 years later, it’s our turn to decide what the future will discover about us.

Our goal is to collect 250 items representing Cynthiana-Harrison County in 2026 before our time capsule is resealed for future generations.

Photos, letters, menus, programs, business memorabilia, community keepsakes and other pieces that tell the story of life here today are all possibilities.

👉 HAVE SOMETHING TO SUBMIT? Complete the Time Capsule Submission Form here:

https://forms.gle/ufFDmDhdjVuXfonC7

And please share the form with businesses, churches, schools, organizations, families and community groups that should be represented!

🎃 TREATS ON MAIN- OCTOBER 31 | 6-8 PM

We’re preparing to welcome thousands of trick-or-treaters to downtown Cynthiana, and we need plenty of community participation to make it happen!

Businesses, churches, organizations, clubs and community groups can set up for FREE at the Harrison County Courthouse, 111 S. Main Street, decorate their space, dress up and hand out candy.

👉 WANT TO SET UP? Email [email protected] to reserve your space.

Can’t set up this year? You can still help by sharing our call for participants with a business or organization that might!

❤️ WHY ARE WE ASKING?

Tourism isn’t something one office can do alone.

Every time you share one of our events, invite someone to town, participate in a community project or tell someone what there is to do in Cynthiana, you help us reach new visitors, support our local businesses and strengthen our community.

So when you see one of these posts come across your feed over the next few weeks-

SHARE IT. TAG SOMEONE. TELL A FRIEND. INVITE SOMEONE TO CYNTHIANA.

Those little things make a much bigger difference than you might realize.

Let’s keep telling the many stories of Cynthiana-Harrison County. ❤️

🎄✨ OUR 2026 CHRISTMAS THEME IS HERE! ✨🎄

We know, we know- we’re very much celebrating FALL in Cynthiana right now! 🍂💀🎃 But we also know our local businesses need time to dream, plan, order supplies, and create their holiday displays, so we’re giving you an early peek at this year’s Christmas theme!

Cynthiana/Harrison County businesses, this year we’re celebrating The 12 Days of Christmas, and we want YOU to help bring the theme to life! ❤️

🐦 A Partridge in a Pear Tree
🕊️ Two Turtle Doves
🐓 Three French Hens
🎶 Four Calling Birds
💍 Five Golden Rings
🪿 Six Geese-a-Laying
🦢 Seven Swans-a-Swimming
🥛 Eight Maids-a-Milking
💃 Nine Ladies Dancing
🤸 Ten Lords-a-Leaping
🎶 Eleven Pipers Piping
🥁 Twelve Drummers Drumming

Choose a day (or take inspiration from several!) and put your own spin on it through your storefront, windows, displays, or holiday décor.

Go traditional. Make it whimsical. Keep it elegant. Get a little silly. Take it completely over the top. 🎀 There’s no single “right” way to participate. We want to see each business interpret the theme in its own way.

🎄 We can’t wait to see what Cynthiana/Harrison County creates for The 12 Days of Christmas!

More holiday details will be coming soon. ❤️✨
