🚒 Big news! 🚒

Bruce Township Fire Department is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $10,000 grant from State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council to help us purchase new dual certified wildland fire and rescue gear. This lightweight gear, consisting of protective pants and coats, will ensure protection for our firefighters while allowing them to stay cooler than traditional gear and lessen fatigue during emergency response. This support from State Farm and the NVFC helps us protect our community and keep our firefighters safe. Thank you for being a !

Please see the article in the comments for more details on the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. Out of 150 recipients, we were one of only 3 departments in Michigan, and the only one in the U.P. to be awarded the grant!

***Update***
As of 9pm, 911 functions are back up and running for cell and land lines per Chippewa County Central Dispatch. The fire hall will no longer be staffed. Thanks to our firefighters for coverage today during the outage!

Due to local phone outages, the fire hall is currently staffed to communicate any emergencies via radio to central dispatch should they occur. If you need assistance in the township and your phone isn’t working, come to the hall at 3154 E 12 Mile Rd and someone will assist you until phone service is restored.

In the mean time, we are taking advantage of the weather and washing trucks! Enjoy the warm weekend and remember the area wide fire danger: currently no burning allowed in Bruce Township.

We are excited for the 4th in Barbeau!

The 4th of July is just around the corner and we have a full day of family fun in store! It takes a village to make this day AMAZING so consider donating to the fireworks fund (at the Cozy, Jimmy's store, the Islandview or via Venmo), donating your loose change to the kids foam pit treasure hunt (change jar at the Cozy!), or even VOLUNTEERING!

❤️ 8am - Dunbar Dash: a family-friendly 5k fun run/walk with short "dashes" for the kids, door prizes, and medals! Let us know if you'd like to volunteer!

🤍 Noon - Parade: starts at the top of the hill on 15 Mile (at the red pole barns) and ends at the Cozy! Line up for participants starts at 11:30am.

💙 1 - 3pm: kids foam pit treasure hunt! Thanks to the Kinross Volunteer Fire Department and the Bruce Township Volunteer Fire Department! Always a BLAST for the kiddos!

❤️ 7pm: live music on the patio at the Cozy!

It was a good day for a ferry ride!

Mutual Aid Response: This morning, Bruce Township Fire was dispatched to assist Soo Township Fire on Neebish Island for a tree on a power line that was catching fire and burning. Engine 1 responded with 4 firefighters and crews were able to extinguish the tree and prevent fire spread.

Always happy to assist our mutual aid partners when needed!

FIRE: STRUCTURE- Last night at approximately 11:30pm Bruce Township Fire Department was dispatched for a fully engulfed garage fire that was spreading to a house. Bruce Township Engine 1, Tanker, and 8 firefighters responded. Mutual aid was requested from Dafter Township Fire for a tanker and manpower. Upon arrival crews found a garage to be fully involved with heavy fire showing from the home. Extensive overhaul was necessary to completely extinguish the fire and Bruce Township personnel remained on scene until a little after 5am this morning. 1 Firefighter was treated and released on scene by NEMSA for heat exhaustion.

We thank our mutual aid partners Dafter Township Fire Department, Chippewa County Central Dispatch, Chippewa County Sheriffs Office, NEMSA, and Cloverland Electric for their assistance with the incident.

The call came in around 11:30 p.m.

FIRE: STRUCTURE- This morning at approximately 2:13am Bruce Township Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fully engulfed structure fire. Engine 1 and Tanker 1 responded with 9 personnel. Upon arrival crews found a large greenhouse well involved with heavy fire showing and extending quickly through the structure. Crews were able to initiate a quick knock down and save roughly half of the structure along with the contents inside. No injuries were reported.

Great job by the crew on scene and thank you to Chippewa County Central Dispatch, NEMSA, and MSP for the assistance.

Awesome event this past Saturday at The Cozy! Glad we could be apart of it and glad the kids enjoyed the truck! It’s always a great time getting engaged in the community.

Local law enforcement officers, deputies, firefighters, and EMTs turned a family outing into a hands-on lesson in public safety during Super Hero Saturday at Cozy Corners—an event aimed at building positive connections with kids
