GALERY: Several fire departments spend weekend ice rescue training 01/12/2026

This weekend some of our firefighters participated in this excellent training hosted by Sugar Island Fire Department. They learned the techniques for ice rescue and put those skills to work performing multiple rescues in and out of the water from the ice. We now have certified ice rescue technicians to better serve the township and be ready to respond in an ice emergency. Thank you Sugar Island for the invite!!

Have you ever been interested in joining a fire department and making a difference in your community? Now is your chance!

Bruce Township is looking to add some firefighters to our department. With an academy scheduled to run this winter, now is the perfect time to join and be able to become certified over the winter.

Some requirements are:
•18 years old or older
•Valid drivers license
•Able to pass a physical and drug screen
•Firefighter I & II certified
-If not certified, willing to attend the fire
academy. This is roughly 300 hours of
training required by the state of Michigan.

Some other expectations of our firefighters include attending monthly trainings and responding to calls for service.

You do not have to live in the township to be a part of this great team. If you are interested in serving the community, gaining a wealth of knowledge, and assisting in emergency situations, please message our page or contact Chief Andrews at 906-440-2164.
