🏗️ DATA CENTER CONSTRUCTION UPDATE | GREENFIELD

Because Google’s Data Center Campus is being built inside the Botetourt Center at Greenfield Industrial Park, away from most residential areas, much of the construction activity may not be visible to the public. Greenfield was designed that way, to accommodate business and industrial development, in a setting that limits impacts on surrounding neighborhoods.

To keep residents informed and maintain a record of the project’s progress, Botetourt County will take monthly construction photos documenting activity at the site and post them on our website at BOCODataCenter.com.

These updates offer a visual look from above at how construction progresses over time and help keep our community informed about development happening in our county.

📸 Check back each month for the latest photos and construction progress from Greenfield.

Building officials and Fire & EMS staff from nearly a dozen Western Virginia counties met at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield for a learning session focused on data center plan reviews, inspections and fire safety.

“All fire and EMS responders have a core mission to protect lives, property and the environment. The best and most effective way to accomplish that mission is through prevention, and prevention begins with the plan review process,” said Travis Collins, Captain of Botetourt Fire & EMS.

“Data centers present some challenges that many of us haven’t encountered before and we wanted to make sure our officials had an opportunity to learn from communities that have already worked through these processes.”

If you visit the County's Administration building inside the Botetourt Center at Greenfield, you may notice some construction underway. This is part of a new cul-de-sac that is being installed.

In April 2026, the Board of Supervisors voted to abandon a portion of S. Center Drive to allow Altec to construct a new, private entrance to their facility. While no closures to the Admin building entrance are planned, please know that construction will be underway for several months as the space is graded and paved.
