This October, the C.O.L.D. Team — Cancer On Lock Down — Blue Goes Pink stands together to raise awareness, honor those we’ve lost, support those still fighting, and celebrate the survivors whose strength inspires us all. 💗

Breast cancer affects families, friends, coworkers, and communities. Early detection can save lives. Take the time to schedule your recommended screening, know your risk, know your body, and encourage the people you love to do the same.

🎀 Honoring the Fallen Angels
We remember those whose lives were taken by breast cancer.

🎀 Standing with the Warriors
We support everyone currently fighting this battle.

🎀 Saluting the Thrivers & Survivors
We celebrate the courage, resilience, and strength of those who have overcome.

This month—and every month—let’s choose awareness, education, early detection, support, and hope.

💗 Together, we are better. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we fight.

💙🩷 Blue Goes Pink 5K — September 19, 2026 🩷💙

What a wonderful day of community, awareness, and support at the Blue Goes Pink 5K!

The SMU Police Department was proud to participate in an event that brought people together to raise awareness and support those affected by cancer. Events like this remind us that our work extends beyond the badge, it’s about being present, building relationships, and standing alongside the community we serve.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, supported the event, and helped make it such a success. Your energy, generosity, and commitment truly made a difference.

To everyone who has battled cancer, is currently fighting, or has supported a loved one throughout the journey, we see you, we stand with you, and we’re walking with you. 💙🩷

On September 12, we celebrated National Police Woman Day, recognizing the women who serve in law enforcement and the important contributions they make to their agencies and communities.

The women who serve the SMU community in Patrol, Investigations, Dispatch, and throughout our public safety operations are critical to our success. Their professionalism, dedication, and leadership strengthen our department and help keep our campus safe.

Further demonstrating the achievements of our female public safety professionals, Detective Maggie Deleon was selected as one of 25 recipients of the North Texas Area Public Safety Rising Star Award on 9/13 👏🏽👏🏽

Detective Deleon was honored at a special awards ceremony held in Hickory Creek, Texas.

⭐ Even more noteworthy, Detective Deleon was the ONLY university police department awardee among the Rising Stars recognized!

This recognition is a testament to her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our campus community. We are incredibly proud to have Detective Deleon representing our department and university in such a distinguished way.

Her commitment to excellence, service, and building meaningful relationships with the community exemplifies what it means to be a Rising Star in public safety.

Congratulations, Detective Deleon! This honor is well deserved! 👮🏻‍♀️🌟

September serves as an important reminder that campus safety is a shared responsibility. Campus Safety Awareness & National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to strengthen their awareness of potential risks, understand available safety resources, and take practical steps to prepare for emergencies.

Preparedness is more than responding when something happens, it is knowing what to do before it happens. Throughout the month, the SMU Police Department will be encouraging our campus community to:

* Stay Informed: Know how to receive emergency alerts and stay aware of what is happening around you.
* Make a Plan: Have a personal emergency plan and know where to go and who to contact during an emergency.
* Take Action: Report concerning behavior or suspicious activity, participate in safety programs, and take an active role in protecting yourself and others.

Our goal is simple: build a campus community that is informed, prepared, connected, and resilient.

BE AWARE. BE PREPARED.
Safety starts with each of us!
