DALLAS! Early voting has begun and DSA North Texas is saying…
NO to Cop City 👮🏻♀️ 🚫
YES to Housing 🏡 🏢✅
Two measures will appear on Dallas voters’ ballots this election:
1) City of Dallas Prop A will cost the City over $600 million to build a training facility for militarized policing.
2) Dallas County Prop A - will provide $100 million a year for housing services in transitional support and non-carceral care for our unhoused neighbors.
In August, Dallas City Council voted 11-4 to ask the people of Dallas to back a $443 million bond to expand the Law Enforcement Training Center in southern Dallas.
In the same year that the City’s fiscal mismanagement has led to furloughed workers, cuts to libraries, and slashes to eviction defense, it shows our Council’s priorities.
Dallas already spends nearly two thirds of its General Fund on policing, leading to budget deficits and the lowest credit rating among major cities in Texas.
Not only will this bond further bankrupt us, it will push vital projects which Dallasites voted on in 2024 to the back of the line as the City seeks to further entrench real estate and cop power over our city.
This year, DSA North Texas hosted people’s town halls across the city to hear what working-class Dallasites want from their municipal government.
It’s clear: they want fully funded parks and libraries, safe streets, and investment for our communities - not hundreds of millions of more tax dollars for militarized policing or the real estate lobby’s pet projects.
That’s why we’re going to be out in our community every week until Election Day talking to voters about what will be on their ballots.
While corporate politicians do the bidding of the rich and powerful, our working-class movement takes to the streets to lead the fight for a Dallas that works for us, not the billionaires.
Dallas City Council and their billionaire backers think we deserve Flock cameras on every corner, broken streets and sidewalks, and shuttered parks and libraries.
But we know: Dallas Workers Deserve More!
