Yesterday morning, our recruits crossed the line between training and becoming Probationary Firefighters.

Our recruit class finished a simulation of a real 24-hour shift, filled with events reflecting a typical day in the fire service. Their final challenge came after very little sleep - awakened to an unknown assignment, each recruit had to complete an individual victim search across three divisions.

On the other side stood their instructors and classmates, ready to embrace them. Then came the ceremonial burning of their recruit uniform shift and the donning of the Firefighter shirt—a moment commemorating everything they had worked to become.

Soon to be Probationary Firefighter Shaw is pictured here, but this photograph tells a story for every recruit in this class. The exhaustion. The relief. The pride. Everything it took to reach this moment.

I had the honor of standing there when it happened, and I had a hard time holding back my own tears. Pride, joy, memories of my own journey—all of it came together.

To our newest Probationary Firefighters: You earned this. I hope you carry the meaning of this morning with you throughout your careers.

I am proud of every one of you!

—Assistant Chief Brandon Maple

A first for Paulding County Fire & Rescue!

Congratulations to Lt. Logan Pilgrim and Firefighter/Paramedic Cheyenne Harper on successfully completing the SOARescue Tactical Medical Practitioner (TMP) Program—the first PCFR personnel to achieve this accomplishment.

Throughout the demanding 82-hour course, they demonstrated their ability to apply Tactical Emergency Casualty Care guidelines in simulated high-threat environments. This specialized training strengthens their ability to provide lifesaving care under challenging conditions.

Thank you both for your dedication to serving and protecting our community. Job well done!

Paulding County Fire & Rescue welcomed its new Air & Light truck yesterday with a traditional push-in ceremony, marking an important investment in firefighter safety and emergency response for our community.

While fire engines carry the water and equipment needed to fight a fire, an Air & Light truck provides critical support that helps firefighters continue working safely during lengthy and demanding emergencies. Firefighters depend on self-contained breathing apparatus to work in smoke-filled and hazardous environments. Their air supply is limited, and cylinders must be replaced as crews continue operating.

The new truck provides breathing-air support at the scene, helping keep crews equipped and ready to return to work when needed. Scene lighting is equally important. Emergencies do not stop when the sun goes down. At nighttime fires, vehicle crashes, and other incidents, powerful lighting helps responders see hazards, operate equipment, and care for patients. Better visibility supports safer working conditions for firefighters and other emergency personnel.

Chief Garrett Brubaker commented,
“For Paulding County residents and businesses, the value is practical - sustained support for crews protecting their homes, helping their families, and responding during some of their most difficult moments. Bringing these resources directly to an emergency scene helps firefighters maintain during complex or extended emergencies.”

The push-in ceremony recognized both the arrival of the new apparatus and the teamwork behind bringing it into service. Paulding County Fire & Rescue thanks the citizens of Paulding County, the Board of Commissioners, and the department’s Apparatus and Equipment committees for supporting this addition to the fleet.

Air & Light is housed at Station 3, Mt Tabor Church Road and will be staffed 24/7/365.

Only a couple weeks left for our recruits!

Last week was highlighted by vehicle extrication class and a family day, where the recruits were able to have their families come to our training center and watch a few drills and learn how things operate! This was a great time.

12 Paulding recruits and 1 Haralson recruit remain. The finish line is in sight.

Week 6 of recruit school is over, today starts week 7.

Last week, we were able to put our new Bullard thermal imagers to the test, showing the recruits the benefits of a very important tool. We also completed the “5 hose” evolution, where students must work on air consumption and staying oriented.

Week 7 began with 13 Paulding recruits and 1 Haralson recruit.

Keep up the solid work.

Today was spent honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, 25 years ago.

We started our day with a 3.43 mile run, followed by a beautiful 9/11 ceremony.

Throughout the day, many members went to Crunch Fitness - Hiram, and participated in the memorial stair climb, while a couple of our personnel also attended the Stone Mountain climb.

We will never forget!
