Neighbor Up is a collective impact nonprofit, convened to accelerate the GrowSouth vision and mobilize economic development in three target areas.
Neighbor Up is a independent, nonprofit created to mobilize economic development and revitalization in 3 target areas in Southern Dallas. It is obvious that large-scale social change comes from better cross-sector coordination, rather than from the isolated intervention of individual organizations. Therefore, Neighbor Up serves as the backbone organization to leverage collective action across both
public and private sectors to generate change. To that end, leaders of both public (i.e. Mayor, City Manager, Chief of Police, DISD Superintendent, etc.) and private (i.e. CitySquare, Workforce Solutions, Dallas Regional Chamber, Commit!, etc.) sectors serve on the Collective Impact Leadership Council. The 3 target areas are:
Red Bird: centrally located just minutes from downtown, western DFW, and southern Dallas county, and includes Southwest Center (Red Bird) Mall, 7 megachurches, Boulder Park, and the Golf Course of Dallas. It has a rich history and is an area that is going through a rebirth. Parkdale/Urbandale, a far southeast Dallas neighborhood that is at a tipping point and could improve or decline economically. The Education Corridor between Paul Quinn College on the east and the University of North Texas-Dallas on the west, an area ready for new development. Clearly, each area with its own unique challenges will teach us how to respond to similar areas in other parts of our city in years to come. A general Manager has been assigned to each of the target areas: LaShonne Watts in Red Bird; Christie Myers in the Education Corridor; and Edie Diaz in Parkdale/Urbandale. The General Mangers will work with the communities in identifying strategic plans for action and activities to improve quality of life in each neighborhood.
